Aloha everyone....we've been feeding this guy for a few months now...he has become a part of our daily routine...I think he has some Bengal in him...I named him Smokey aka General Smokestacks [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji] we are still unsure if we will bring him in...I keep trying to convince the hubby...he is such a good boy...he even comes when I call him...he's a big boy...very tall for a cat...and well he's putting on weight too...I think he makes other stops in the community...because sometimes he'll come over and have this awful perfume on him (yuck, it's smells bad)I think he weighs at least 25 pounds maybe even 30...here's a few pik
The first 2 are from a couple of months ago and the last 3 are from about 2 hours ago...please excuse the way I look..I was still waking up lolol [emoji]9749[/emoji][emoji]128008[/emoji]

Are you certain he is not an owned cat?  He is definitely not feral.

If you are feeding him and considering adopting him, you need to make sure he is not owned by someone that allows him outside time.  Also are you certain that he is a he?  You would want to get him vet checked to see if he is possibly microchipped as well as vaccines, viral testing and spay/neuter.

I would be concerned about the extra weight.  It could be that he is eating many places, but it also could be that he is a she and pregnant.  I would talk with the neighbors to see what others might know about him.

Hello...he is definitely a boy...and if we bring him in yes he'll get all of the above...I believe he's neutered...and of course I'll see if he's microchipped...I had a hectic Dec and Jan...so now I can start to disperse fliers etc...I would never take someone's cat...I mean C'Mon don't you think I have already thought about all of what you have mentioned...I do not believe he's full on feral however it has taken a few months to get him to where he is with me now...and he was a little skittish around my husband but I had to leave for 2 weeks and he took care of him so now they are buds...

Well...it seems as if Smokey has been abandoned along with another cat which according to neighbors one goes one way and Smokey comes our way....I've only seen his brother once....so I did not know....I have set up a Costco box with a towel in it for now...he is being fed ...and fresh water...and lots of love and attention...my husband is concerned about the stress another cat indoors would do to me...so I pray and I wait

The story on Smokey is this yes he was abandoned but the people who bought the place from the person who abandoned him have been taking care of him...I walked by the house and I noticed all kinds of cat carriers, condos etc...so I thought I go and talk to them in morning...I did..and much to my demise she gave Smokey and his brother to a friend of theirs this morning...a person who owns 10 cats...so she said she'd call and see if the lady would be willing to bring him back and well she said that she was going to give him a week...if he didn't get along with cats by then she'd bring him back over...my heart is broken...

Oh no!  I had no idea. Smokey is my kind of cat - big, soft, friendly grey - just like my heavenly Brian.  If I had known I would have encouraged you to adopt him or at least "foster" (aye, right!).  I don't know your history, or the stress you're under, but I can see that you're even more stressed by losing him, than by keeping him.

So, phone them up, better still go around in person asap.  Take these photos with you.  They basically prove  that he's yours, that he's chosen you.  You two look like you've always been together.  Tell them that there's been a dreadful mistake and that you'd already adopted him over 2 weeks ago.  Show them this thread to prove it to them.  Tell them that your health is at risk without him, which I believe to be the case.

You need to get in quick though.  A 10-cat lady is either going to be extremely understanding and give him back in an instant, or she's going to be a greedy-grey snatcher who will take more persuading.

I'll back you up.

@Brian007

Thank you so much for your support...wow that makes my heart smile [emoji]128525[/emoji]

I can't beat myself up for not going over sooner...the truth is I have been asking around in our community and have heard several different stories...and I did not want to steal someone's cat...but in the last 5 days when I started finding out he was abandoned I started to really pray and seek out what I needed to do...so I did some recon...and when I saw all the cat stuff I was like ok...I'll go in the morning which was yesterday...so the lady fills me in saying that yes they too have been taking care of him...because the owner who abandoned smokey sold them his house...anyhoo I told her I loved him...I showed her all the pictures...she said she'd tell her friend she had just given him to...anyways when I went back to her last night that's when she told me the lady is gonna give him a week...

If you could pray for me to get him back...that would be so greatly appreciated...I know God is in control..and I woke up this morning with this thought...

What if my job was to do exactly what I had been doing for him...to show him not every human is bad...feed him...give him tons of love...play with him...hahaha I even took him for a walk around the block!!

I did imprint with him and so yesterday I was crying all dang day...

I remain hopeful...[emoji]9757[/emoji][emoji]128008[/emoji]

My heart hasn't stopped racing since I first read this thread.  I can't imagine how you're feeling.  It's a kind of grief but an in-limbo-grief.  I'll put my most concerted effort into wishing him home, I promise

Other people have recently read these two threads, I imagine because of my shocked title words, hopefully they'll be praying too, please.

Fingers crossed.

My mum collects cats, she's had up to 16 before.  She would definitely give him to you if he were rightfully yours.  I really do urge you to find out where this lady lives and go round in person to explain (and take him home in your cat-carrier).  If you do this today/tomorrow she won't have had time to bond with him, she might really like him n stuff, but neither of them will fully trust each other yet.  By a week's time this will be drastically different.  If I had a cat for a week, we would most certainly have become good friends.

x

I wish it was that simple...it's the ladys friend who took him...and yesterday when I asked if she could call her while I was there she claimed she didn't have her phone number but her husband did and he wouldn't be home until 7...maybe I can talk with my husband and we can go over there and try to reason with her to call her friend...I hate to say it like this but I hope Smokey acts crazy so she'll call and say come get him

Your husband's presence by your side will make a huge difference to your overall confidence and will give you a greater "family" claim to Smokey than her "single" self.  Hopefully, Smokey will stress spray everywhere and fight with all her other cats.  I'm not being mean saying that, and it's not either woman's fault, but fair is fair, he belongs with you.  However, if the 1st woman is purposely withholding the cat lady's phone number then she is despicable.  I wish I were in Florida right now; I wish my mum were there more so, because she would retrieve Smokey with no uncertain terms, she's a formidable Cat-Lady.  I'm more meek and mild but I know what's deservedly right and will stand up for it.  Grrrrr.

Hey imjustacatmom, i somehow missed this thread of yours :smshfrk:

I hope you can get to keep Smokey. It seems that they are tossing him around and not claiming responsibilities. Hopefully he settles in with you ;)

How are things?  Are you ok?

 :rub:
@Brian007

Wow!!! Thank you for asking...my heart is sad...the week has come and gone and I guess Smokey has assimilated into his new environment well...which I'm not surprised he is a really mellow and laid back cat who loves to love...and I can only hope and pray the lady is treating him well...

As for us...we have been talking about getting a kitten...kittens are alot of work...but I am a stay at home cat mom...we'll see...I love having rescues...however I also want a Snowshoe and there is a breeder here in FL...

We pray and we wait

Thank you again for reaching out.. that really means so much to me [emoji]128568[/emoji][emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128568[/emoji][emoji]128049[/emoji][emoji]128008[/emoji]

Sorry to hear that Smokey's not coming back but at least he's found a home where he'll be looked after and have lots of pals

Snowshoes sound interesting, and apparently are super rare, so that's lucky there's a breeder nearby.  I've always had rescue cats myself, and never ever considered a pedigree until Brian suddenly died last year.  I was without a cat of any sorts for three awful weeks, was in the deepest grief imaginable, and lived in the middle of nowhere with no one around me for support.  None of the rescue centres I phoned and emailed would accept me as a local resident, and I couldn't drive miles & miles & miles to look in a shelter on the off-chance that I'd be suitable, as I don't drive.  In the UK, we have fairly strict adoption rules, which usually entail a pre-house inspection visit and a bit of a wait.  I was quite simply losing the plot, and couldn't bare the loneliness, timescale, travelling, etc, involved.  So, I found Dudley, my ragdoll, who I think actually rescued me.  He was only 8 weeks old and the breeder was a bit back-doorish, but he was mine
and was in easy reach.

Anyway, I'm a convert to the whole pedigree cat thing now.  Dudley's character is so sweet, polite, quiet, and gentle, which is typical of ragdolls.  So I'm planning on finding another, more in-my-face, characterful cat, to be an energetic companion to us both, as we're just too darn mellow left to ourselves.  Brian was very characterful.  I miss our talks and his ever-ready paw of friendship; he always knew exactly what to say and do.  And I miss his sense of humour and of always smiling, laughing & singing.  I smile and laugh a fair bit naturally but Brian lit my world up so very, very brightly.  I don't mean to do Dudley down as he's my sweet "little" fluffy muffin but a bit more siamese would please.  Snowshoes are descended from siamese, I've literally just read up on them this minute.  They sound delightful
  Go for it.....

Yes they are very rare...however with that being said...many people here in the states think they have a Siamese when they in fact have a Snowshoe...as a matter of fact my friends mom has a Snowshoe and she thought she was Siamese until I told her and then they Googled it

I am so sorry to hear about your Brian...we've never been to the UK...but I can imagine what it must feel like to live in the middle of nowhere and to not have a car...I'm glad you found a kitty of pedigree you like...

My two that I have now are purebreed but because they don't have papers they are not recognized as pedigree...they are both rescues
