I woke up this morning and my little guy was not himself. He usually follows me around and begs for food right off the bat. Today he was lethargic and just sitting on the couch, blinking slowly.

As I was leaving the house, I noticed he had thrown up near the entrance and also had diarrhea. His litter box was pretty messy. The stuff he threw up still had pieces of carrots. Ugh, that must have been in the Nature's Instinct canned that I currently feed him.

I upped his feeding the last couple of days. I was feeding him a can per day but because he's young it seemed like not enough. So yesterday I fed him close to 2 cans. Maybe it was too much? Maybe the Nature's Instinct is no longer sitting well with him?

I'm at work now but my husband is at home. Kitty still hasn't eaten and doesn't seem to be feeling so well. Any ideas what it could be? Happened quite suddenly. He was still so playful and energetic last evening.

Carrots? It could be his tummy is rejecting the food. Don't think it has to do with the amount. Was it the same food or was it change?

No, it was the same food. I rotate. I gave him some Ziwipeaks yesterday too. But him getting different cans is nothing new. He usually did very well with one day this can, one day another. Yes, unfortunately the Nature's Variety / Instinct canned does have peas and carrots in it.

Could be indigestion from the carrots and peas.

How many times did he vomit and have diarrhea? Observe him please. For the time being, stop feeding him the Nature's Variety. Have fresh water for him. As long as vomiting is only once and no more, it is the tummy rejecting the food. But for the diarrhea, has it stopped?
Also slow down the feed till he feels better. It's ok if he misses a meal or two.

Thank you. He ate a few minutes ago...the food I left out this morning. And then he started playing on his own. He went to the litter box again and still has runny poop, but no vomiting.

Ok, very good. Just observe the diarrhea. If it's persistent, get him to the vet. I hope it'll stop after awhile.

How's your boy doing? Is he better now? Eating?
Thank you for asking! He's doing much better. No more runs today...no vomiting. I won't be feeding that Nature's Instinct anymore. He ate this morning, although much more slowly than usual. He almost seems cautious and has portioned out his food instead of gobbling it up in one go. Otherwise he seems to be fine.

I'll be taking him in for a one year follow up to the vet in the next 3-4 months...unless something changes drastically of course.

He still has stinky breath. I looked over his teeth yesterday. Everything looks good. His teeth are clean. Gums didn't look swollen or discolored, although there was a tiny bit of redness near the back...I think that's because I try to brush his teeth every other day and he chews on the brush and fights it. I'm going to purchase some chicken necks and gizzards for him to try. I'd just love to stop brushing if he could keep his teeth clean on his own.....

That's great to hear!

Try asking him to eat slower. Sometimes gobbling up food will also lead to vomiting.

Get the vet to check on his teeth. Stinky breath could mean something.
