I have been shopping around for food for my older cat and thanks to this forum have keyed in on some brands.

I do have a question. Ive heard great things about this ZiwiPeak food as im looking to get low salt, higher protein but im also concerned about Phosphorus levels as well.

According to the sheet supplied, they list two columns, one is for As received and the other being dry matter. If it is the dry matter the levels seem to be much higher and dont rank very high on this list. Can anyone clarify the difference.

As received 0.30% and dry matter 1.33%

Ive been using this sheet and notice this brand is not listed very high.

Received (aka, as fed) is the product as it is when you buy it. So phosphorus makes up 0.30% of the product as it is when you buy it.

Dry matter is what is left when you remove all the water. So if you remove all the water from that product phosphorus makes up 1.33% of what is left (the dry matter).

The dry matter value is usually more useful. if you just look at the as fed value a food can appear to be lower in  phosphorus when in reality it is just higher in water.

If your cat has CKD ZP phos will be too high, ZP uses bone, so the phos will always be higher on foods that have bone or don't use a lot of fillers. If your cat doesn't have any CKD I wouldn't really worry about the phos levels because they're fine for a cat that doesn't have compromise kidney function. Another good food that's high protein is Feline Naturals.

Thank you, ive heard alot of good things about FN naturals they replied to me on some questions I asked on FB Page.

Feline Natural Chicken & Lamb:
Phosphorus - 1.20%
Sodium - 0.30%
Protein - 36.1%

Feline Natural Chicken & Venison:
Phosphorus - 1.60%
Sodium - 0.40%
Protein - 69.3%

Feline Natural Beef & Hoki:
Phosphorus - 1.70%
Sodium - 0.40%
Protein - 42.5%

Feline Natural Lamb & Salmon:
Phosphorus - 1.10%
Sodium - 0.30%
Protein - 36.10%

I do like the lower sodium, my cat has a heart mur mur, hes 12/13 and has had it a while so im always trying to find better food for him.

Thank you, @william1981 for copying these numbers from your Q&A on the Facebook page! For other readers of this thread, I checked the Feline Natural Facebook page and confirmed that these are dry matter numbers.
