My little bundle of joy just recently having urinary troubles, fearing the worst I rushed him to the vet and they monitored him for 24hrs, they then inserted a catheter for the weekend. Monday I pick him up and they gave me one dose of Onsior and weeks worth of doses of Prazosin. Unfortunately Tuesday(the next day) back to the same issue, I return him to the vet, and the inserted a catheter for a second time, 48 hours later they remove it and sent him home same day. I originally had troubles getting him to eat, so the second time I admitted him, I warned them to monitor that as well. All blood test, came back great, no liver, or kidney damage. I know this is a common issue, and the Next step is a Full P.U. (cat sex change). however, just like most I don't want it to come such measure, I'm already 1200 in vet bills, although id pay for it in a heart beat if I knew it would save my sweet 2yr olds life, Any suggestions on recovery that could increase his odds of not having to get the surgery. So far I've place water bowls around the house, prescription dry food in two places. as well feeding all my babies wet food treats to increase water intake. I also replaced my regular downstairs water bowl with a water fountain.

I have a cat who early on had a tendency to develop crystals.  Vet said she was a "crystal making machine".  The problem was resolved by putting her on SOLELY WET prescription food.  NO DRY!

Even with dry prescription food, there is no way a cat with blockage tendency can stay hydrated enough to prevent development of crystals and blockages.

Only answer is ONLY WET food.  I also make homemade chicken broth to add to it.  The cat needs all the fluids she can get.  She is now 15 years old, good kidney values and has not had blockage issues for many years.

He weirdly prefers dry, but I have both and will be giving him that when ever he eats, he's visably eating more this time around both wet and dry. He's also very doped up so lazy and loving. The only real reason I'm hesitant to go strictly wet is because I know dry food can help with dental hygiene, but if I have to I'll brush some teeth so I don't have to go thru this again, its emotional draining to see your family in pain , so I'm praying I can get him healthy and peeing fine with out surgery, fingers crossed. Five cats can be hectic but I love them all!
