Hi all. My cat went outside yesterday by accident and came back with a small [about the size of a bb pellet] wound. It's a perfect circle. He's acting a bit tired and keeps licking it. I don't have money to take him to the vet until tomorrow, so I'm pretty worried. He is eating and drinking though. Here are photos.

It's difficult to see in the photos but is it possible that the abrasion has been there for a while and you're just now noticing it?

It looks like an abscess to me.

Do you have any tips on how to treat it? ^^

Other than taking your cat to the vet, no, I'm sorry I don't.  But if you're planning a vet visit as soon as tomorrow I would worry too much.  As long as your cat is eating, using the litter box and not lethargic I think she'll be fine until then.  Please come back and let us know what your vet said!

Looks like an abscess to me too. At this stage it has burst and is draining. Clean the area with a warm washcloth, in fact warm compresses are great to keep it draining. They have antibacterial sprays like Vetericyn at farm supply stores like Orschelns or Tractor Supply, or maybe even in pet sections at your local Walmart. The leg should have been swollen and sore right before it bursts, I have had many ferals limping around before. I usually get a over the counter antibiotic to give in the swollen stage, the infection can spread in the cats system.  I very rarely have the vet do surgery on these, other than to lance and drain them, it is very extensive and I have seen no faster healing results or worse scenario cases with those ferals that do not have surgery. Call your vet or bring that picture in and see what they decide. All the luck!

A long shot, but I've seen birds take a chunk out of feral cats in my neighborhood. Don't know where you live, but I have a lot of wading birds around my pond, and the herons, egrets, and especially the storks won't hesitate to take off after the cats. Last week a stork nailed one of the smaller cats and put a hole right in his back. The poor thing came up on my porch, so I washed the wound out with water.

Hey, i know it’s been a long time since last reply on this post but anyone know what it is?
My cat has the exact same round wound but a bit bigger, and it isnt going away.

My female spayed cat doesnt seem to be in pain and is eating normally, but that wound on her left thigh is taking so long to heal, about a month.
2 vets said it was eczema and gave topical creams and antibiotics but still not healing.

This is an old thread, so you will probably not get a reply. If what your cat has looks very similar to the pic, it does not look like eczema to me and I would agree that it looks like an abscess. It does not look like a bot fly or cuterebra either. I realize that you said that you went to two vets already, to your credit. Do you have access to a veterinary dermatologist? It is possible for eczema to become infected though, which means that it is not getting better despite the current treatment.
