I would appreciate insight into the breed of my six year old cat. He was found in the woods in Pennsylvania when he was about three months old. He has short grey hair with tiger strips that have faded significantly with age. He has a very tall and muscular build standing at about 2 ft tall and weighing close to 20 lbs (may be more but he won't stay on scale long enough for the vet the weigh him). He is very attached to me and is very slow to warm to anyone else. He will follow me around and often cried until I hold him (this may be because I held him often as a kitten). He has very long teeth, about an inch or more. He primarily chirps when playing and did not meow until introduced to my sisters cat at one year old. He is also very fast and can jump very high (I have seen him make a six ft completely vertical jump) but is afraid to jump down. He is actually very skittish in general seemingly afraid of any sound and always remaining alert. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I have included pictures from when he was a kitten through current day.

Hello jne237, welcome to TCS :wavey:

Thank you for saving him and giving him a loving home and have him till now
Some cats are more sensitive to sounds as it could be bad experiences when he was young before you found him. He's proably very attached to you.

He is a Domestic Shorthair Mackerel Tabby. DSH is not a breed but just a representation of the domestic cat and Tabby is just the describing the coat patterns.

He's a lovely boy!

Yes blue mackerel tabby.  His behavior is in much because he is shy.  My shy resident behaved similiarly in much.

As he is so big without being fat, a guess is he has Maine Coon in him.  Natural son or at least, grandson.

A longhaired  MCO, mated with a shorthair, will give quite a such result.  If his jaw is quadratish, the diagnose is practically sure.  If he isnt quadratich, he perhaps got mommas jawline, no?

So, could we get a good pic of face and jaw, from frontside.

He is a big handsome beastie! :D I was wondering if he had some Maine Coon too, just from his size. I'm glad he's found a good home with you.

Thank you for all of the feedback. He certainly is a special boy. Here is a picture of his face (I don't believe his face photographs well) and of his teeth which are bigger than I have ever seen on a domestic cat.

I just wanted to say your kitty is beautiful! My cat looks just like him, except she's female, about 18lbs too
