I have two new kittens that I adopted from a rescue.  I'm trying to determin their breed.

On both sides of their heads they have markings between their eyes and ears.  The hair is thinner than it is on the rest of their face. They are very healthy and the markigns are not due to dease or malnutrition.  I have seen other adult cats with the same markings.  They are all black and have green eyes.

Looking online, the only breed I see that's close is a bombay but none of them have the thinning hair at the temples.

Hi and welcome!

You have 2 very adorable black domestic short hair cats.  There is no Bombay that I see in them let alone is would be highly unlike to find a purebred cat in a rescue (it does happen, I nearly adopted a purebred Ragdoll from one), let alone siblings.

The thinning fur is common in cats but typically I see it more in adult cats.  I would not be able to say if that is normal or not. If your vet ruled out any kind of disease/infections or even allergies, than it's most likely normal.

What are their names and how old are they?

It's normal. My black cat has those bald spots too and has had them since he was a kitten. I also have a tortie/calico, and she has them, too, but it's less noticeable than it is with black cats. Bombays are rather rare, so it's doubtful they would turn up at a shelter.

Welcome to the Cat Site! Post pics of your babies on the For Black Cats Only thread!
