Hi all!

I really need your help.

As mentioned before I'm adopting a young cat (8month to 1.5 years old) this weekend, hopefully.

I need to buy some supplies. I already have a nice carrier and some toys.

Now I need to choose a proper toilet. What do you advice: closed or open?

Thanks!

Some cats aren't picky about their litter boxes at all, but many are and if they are too uncomfortable with their arrangement they will start eliminating outside of the box, which can become a habit that is difficult to break, so choosing a good litter box is important! Most cats prefer an open litter box because they feel vulnerable while they are using it and like to have more than one direction to escape from if threatened. Open litter boxes also don't trap in odors in a small space like a closed one and make it a more appealing environment.

Rule of thumb, one cat = two litter boxes. Clumping litter is usually recommended. Start out with just a pans, no sides. Not every cat goes over the edge. Clean boxes several times daily, every time you see a deposit, scoop it out. The cleaner you keep the boxes, the happier your cat will be to use it. If you see kitty go, once done and finished covering up, praise and more praise, then scoop.

I've done this with my boy so now he comes and let's me know when he does the stinky stuff and supervises while I scoop.
