I'm so sorry you recently lost Jaxx.  That always makes it tougher when you see ANYTHING amiss with one you still have
But, believe me,  understand the paranoia.  Been there.

Anyway, it's not normal, but it does happen.  Is this his baby tooth, or a permanent one?  If a baby tooth, we can hope that the permanent one will grow in straight.  If this one IS the permanent one, it's possible is may have to be pulled if it's not growing in correctly. Really, it's no big deal, especially if he's an indoor cat where he doesn't need to defend himself.  There are many cats here on TCS who have absolutely NO teeth at all and they get along just fine.  the loss of one tooth, if it happens, won't be too missed.

Good call to have MAxx and the tooth evaluated. If it appears to be irritating the gun and is not a baby tooth, they'll likely recommend having it extracted, which as mrsgreenjeens mrsgreenjeens mentioned would not harm MAxx.

My Kitty has a misaligned canine tooth but after examination, the vet determined that it was not causing harm or discomfort so we've agreed to leave it as is until if/when it does.

Please let us know how MAxx's appointment goes on Thursday [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Mrsgreenjeens,

Thank you so much for understanding, yes..  he will not go outside..  i am having a little enclosure made for him on the sides of my deck so when i am outside he will be outside but protected from all,  I am not sure if it is a baby or perm tooth.. it is his canine tooth... I am so nervous it doesn't seem to be causing him pain but i did notice he is eating oddly.. pulling out of the bowl.. eating on the other side.. I swear i am more anxious about him than i am when i go to the Dr.. and have to get in the scale!

Veterinary dentist?

Is that specialisation common in your country?

I suppose it is quite expensive. Could not be enough to have the cat evaluated by a "regular" vet?

My best wishes to Max!

Hellomisskitty,

Thank you so much.. I needed a new Vet, the one mi had with JAXX i didn't feel comfortable with, so in making a determination of a vet for MAxx i knew i wanted overnight staff if he ever need be hospitalized, as well as eye and teeth care, they have all of this at the new Vet.. Do u know...; if they decide to pull the tooth will they do it then? On Thursday? Do they knock him out?
 keep him?

Solomonar Hi

When i called and asked about my MAxx they stated he would be referred to a Veterinary dentist for anything to do with his teeth.. so i made an appointment at a Vet that has a veterinary dentist on site..I am in NY.. i haven't had a pet for over 20 years till these two boys, one passed away at 5 months in November ...  so i wasn't sure this was a situation my regular VET would handle.. Is it?

In my country usually regular vets are first choice, including dentistry. So I imagine a regular vet can at least see whether there is a difficult problem (and then refer to a the specialized cabinet) or is something she/he can solve.

From what ave headt on this forum, some vets in USA are extremely expensive and not bother to much with the profession ethics (some of them and judging from the declawing rate anyway).

Why not just call a regular vet cabinet and asking whether they can consult your companion for the given dental problem? Shopping around is anyway a good source of information and can save you a lot of money.

Congratulation for guarding two pets!  I am sorry you lost one.

If they decide it needs to be removed, my guess would be would be something they would schedule a different appointment for and that MAxx would be able to come home the same day of the procedure with after care instructions and pain medication to give him for a day or two in order to keep him comfortable.
That would be my guess but I guess it would depend on how the practice works and the urgency of the situation.

That's what happened both times my Pushy had teeth removed. He had surgery in the morning then we picked him up in the afternoon. He was groggy the first day, then recovered pretty quickly.
If MAxx needs this tooth removed, you will be doing the right thing for his future health for sure. Bad teeth can cause so much problems and it just gets harder to deal with as they age.

Thank you so much for helping, honestly i am a wreck, anything wrong with my MAxx is making me freak out so close to losing my beautiful angel JAxx just a couple months ago. I am actually losing sleep over it.. One more sleep, then the horrible car ride to the dentist...
.. fear is the source always of my anxiety.. fear of the unknown.. im too soon reminded of all the trips to the vet with JAxx.. and the horrible outcome..

Hang in there Sweetie [emoji]10084[/emoji]️ I completely understand your anxiety and fear. You went through such a traumatic loss with your JAxx. It's only normal you would be expecting and fearing the worst. Do your best to keep busy and tomorrow will be here before you know it. In the meantime, we are here to keep you company if you need us.

Good luck tomorrow and please let us know what the vet says.

Hugs to you and kisses for MAxx [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Hi everybody thank you so much I just wanted to share some information apparently when cats get their permanent canines the cushion or pad on their gums underneath those teeth will get red will get infected will get sore but they will callous over apparently they're designed for those two teeth to hang out of their mouth and the conditioning or chewing and hitting it when those teeth are new is very common I guess I just happen to see one side but she showed me and it was on both he is not yet 8 months old but he weighs 8 pounds she emphasized the need for wet food because of urinary tract disorders in male cats he got do worms and a distempered and he absolutely would not let the thermometer be in him for 8 Seconds so they did a reading at 6 second he lost it he walked around like he owned the place and was very talkative the whole time to she said his tail is long and she thinks he's going to be big. His appointment was at 4:30 and he didn't even get out of his travel bag till 5:45 they had an emergency and we had to wait I'm very thankful that he is okay he's actually crazy right now running thru the house. Thank you everybody for caring about my MAxx. I feel so much better:clap:

Oh lily paddy lily paddy I'm so happy that your MAxx is a normal, happy, healthy little man!! Sounds like they gave him a really thorough checkup, which must be of great comfort [emoji]10084[/emoji]️ I had a giggle over the thermometer incident [emoji]128569[/emoji]

Thanks for the update and if you have any recent photos of MAxx, I'd love to see them [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Yes, so glad it went well, except for that long wait.  That was kind of a bummer, but sometimes things can't be helped.
