Wasn't sure were to ask this question. I take care of a feral cat colony at work. Some I see and are used to me, some I don't see up close and just run. I have one 9 month old kitten from a litter I TNRed when they were 3 months. They are the frequent cats that aren't afraid of me. One in particular is extremely affectionate toward me. She let's me touch her and stroke her. She has to have my scent all over her. She was alone today after feeding and desperate to cuddle just now. No others were around at the time. Is it possible the others in the colony will smell my scent or the smells of my house cat on her and reject her or start beating on her? Silly question I know but I have to ask. She is very skittish and all over me today. She was a no show fri morn last week for breakfast and she is always there. I was worried to death. But sure enough sat morn I made a special trip at regular feed time and she showed. I also noticed her mama who is completely feral but will tolerate my being around swats at her female babes in the group. I just want to give as many details as possible. Don't mean to ramble. I just don't want this affectionate little feral getting turned out by the elders because of my interaction and smell on her. Thanks for any info.

Julie,

Thank you so much for caring for a feral colony.

I think this would be best in the Feral section, you will get more responses. http://www.thecatsite.com/f/9/caring-for-strays-and-ferals

I too take care of a feral colony and they rub all over me and I pet them. I have never had an issue with them having my scent on them. But that is my experience.

There are a lot of great people in the feral section who can also suggest what is best.

The mom is probably just teaching them manners. But I didn't see your situation. I have seen many moms swat their kittens with no ill affect.

The feral section is great for helping. Thanks again for all you do. I hope you can get the mom spayed at some point.

Opps I didn't post in the feral section.  Thank you so much for pointing that out and replying.  Have a great day!

Your scent is already well known to those in the colony, I wouldn't worry about leaving some on her. They may not like it at first but will quickly get used to it. If there were no humans around at all I would worry about it, but they are used to human smells. Her mom is no doubt trying to teach them to be afraid of you, but they are getting old enough to make their own minds up, and you bring food! Bless you for caring for them, my heart goes out to those out there that have no one to care for and love them. You are an angel here on earth!
