Hi I've been living with my cat Coco for eight wonderful years without much knowledge of cat care, I want to rectify that and be prepared for his seniors years so I'm here to learn from your experience.

The very best thing you can do is to get him a baseline blood panel and repeat once a year.  That way the vet can get a feel for issues as they crop up - which they WILL do as he ages!  Congratulations on properly caring for your fur baby!

Welcome to you and Coco!
Catmom Marcia is quite right about the baseline blood panel.  My vets have always recommended this when my cats were 8 to 10 years old.  They can pick up things early on when you don't have a hint that anything is wrong.  Cats are masters at hiding pain so you can't rely on them to let you know when they don't feel well.

You might find the following thread of interest:  It discusses some of the things to look for in an aging cat.

Since you mentioned that you don't know much about cat care, I'm posting this link as well.  You probably know more than you think you do, but maybe some of this will still be new information.

I hope you and Coco have many more happy years together.  Eight years old is really not that old for a cat these days, especially those who are indoors only.  If you have any questions, just ask.  The people here are very friendly and supportive - they're always willing to share their knowledge when questions come up.

I'm adding my request to the others for pictures of Coco!
