Hi everyone. I've been a long-time viewer, first time posting. I have a 4 1/2 month old kitten who has had some chronic diarrhea issues since I adopted her. She's been tested for almost everything infectious at multiple vet visits, and ultimately the vets concluded that she had GI dysbiosis and was most recently treated with metronidazole which worked. Since then, I've added a daily probiotic to her food which has been good for maintaining formed stools.

However, several days ago I administered Frontline Gold (got it for free from the vet). She happened to lick some of it off and was salivating a lot the rest of the day. But then yesterday and today I've noticed a return of soft stools, with frank diarrhea and gas today. Have you guys ever experienced diarrhea after giving your cat a flea medication? This also happened to her with Heartgard, but not as bad. I think she's gone at least 5 times today. Still active, still drinking water. I plan to give her some boiled chicken mixed with white rice and pumpkin for the next day or two and hopefully it gets better. Just wanted to get another opinion though on recommendations or your experiences with these meds!

Welcome to TCS!
Since my cats have always been indoors I don't use Frontline for them but have used it in the past with our dog.  I do know with dogs the medication dosage depends on the weight of the dog.  Is it the same for cats?  I would check the amount given as well as the expiration date and then since your vet gave you the Frontline I would definitely consult her ASAP.  Best of luck, please keep us posted with an update.

The one they gave me was for any kitten or cat older than 8 weeks and weighing at least 3 lb. My kitten weighs 4.5lb. I'm regretting giving it to her though now that the loose stools have returned. I will call my vet if it doesn't seem to be clearing up by the end of the day tomorrow. thanks!

Update-- Since Nori has had some chronic, off and on diarrhea issues since I adopted her, the vet decided to put her on a prescription diet today. We are starting Royal Canin gastrointestinal high energy wet and dry, as well as a 1 week course of metronidazole. Here's to hoping no more runny stools for this little one!

Fingers crossed for no more diarrhea.
Out of curiosity, did you ask your vet what the back up plan is if this doesn't work?  The reason I asked is because I always like to think ahead and be prepared, just my M.O.
BTW, Nori is so adorable.  I love her coloring and soulful eyes, very expressive.

The vet said that if it continues she would consider doing a stool culture, allergy testing, trial of a hydrolyzed diet and starting her on Tylosin powder.

Thank you! Yes she has quite the spunky personality
