hi,

i just took my cat Stella for dental surgery and i asked them to clean her ears while she under anesthetic and when she came home her head was shaking and she couldnt walk, i took her back there today (3 days later because i thought it was from the pain killers ) and a different vet flushed her ears to see if anything was lodge in there and gave her something for nausea and something else like a sedative to help her head shakes etc. i asked did her eardrum get perforated or blood vessels rupture but he said no and cant explain it. so now we wait and see , i hope she gets better but in the meantime i will assist with her daily water,food and potty. if anyone has any suggestions or how long this will be going on i appreciate any assistance . thank you

Did they think it might be Vestibular Syndrome?  Often that stems from an inner ear infection,and since she had her ears cleaned out, I see some relation there.

Normally with Vestibular Syndrome it does resolve itself within a couple of weeks, so lets hope that's what it is.  Although often they ARE given an antibiotic, in case of a deep inner ear infection.

hi mrsgreenjeans

thanks for the reply, not sure what it is, but just had her at the vet do a saline flush yesterday because there was more ear debris after 6 days . going back to the vet today for her sub q fluids because she cant drink on her own and i dont believe i was giving her enough water, so this way i know she is getting what she needs. also giving her KMR because she hates the hills a/d syringe feeding and now i am trying to find a wet cat food that she likes, she loves dry . everything is a challenge write now.

OK, since there was more debris, do they think it could BE an infection deeper in the ear, which might require some antibiotics?  Was this discussed at all?  This can cause Vestibular issues, which causes off balance issues like you describe.

She may hate the syringe feedings, but she definitely needs to eat.  Can she eat her kibble at all?  What happens when she tries?  Did the Vet say the KMR is ok as her only source of nutrition?   (it's probably not the Hills A/D that she doesn't like, but the fact that you are forcing her to eat it
)
