Hi, Happy Saturday.

It's been a tough week. It's been freezing cold, I've had to shovel snow most mornings and several of my cats have come down with colds.

Yesterday I decided I needed to treat myself to something nice, so I went to an onsen.

An onsen is a natural hot spring bath. There are lots of them around here. (One of the benefits of living on the side of a volcano) The one I went to is about an hours drive from my house, but it does allow you to take a bath even if you have tattoos. A lot of the hot spring resorts won't let you in if your are tattooed, which is kind of unfair.

This onsen also had a steam room and you could get a massage too. It was heaven!

What nice thing have you done to treat yourself recently?

Nothing recently, but I am planning to book a massage soon. Pretty sure my muscles have been replaced by bricks.

And planning my trip to Prague and Vienna, that will be a huge treat for me in the future!

Tomorrow I'm off to Whole Foods to stock up on my favorite Chocolove Chocolate. Whole Foods is one town over, but nobody else sells it.

You need to do something to spoil yourselves! It's the only way to get through the winter. I know Kat0121's winters aren't that dreadful, but all the same......

@Primula  I've never heard of that kind of chocolate. My sister lives in the US and she's a real chocoholic, I'll ask her if she's tried it.

At this time of the year, it's difficult for me. We are planning a bit of a treat, spending the day on Saturday at a Home and Backyard Show over in the Poconos, followed by dinner out somewhere there before coming back home. That will be nice for us. Alas, the local weatherweenies are calling for snow showers, starting this afternoon and going at least into Sunday, so our jaunt may not take place. We need to know where we stand because of boarding The Beast for the day.

I don't know what to do for a treat during the winter.

I think you need to pamper yourself. Something warm and comfortable and relaxing, to make up for it being so cold and wet. How about treating yourself to an afternoon at a spa? You could have a facial or a massage, something special like that?

well, i do make sure i pretty much always have something for dessert! and when i bake/cook a dessert, that's definitely something i consider a treat. in fact, i just made some home cooked carob pudding today......totally and incredibly yummy!

and there was the 3-layer carob cake with carob-cream cheese buttercream that i baked around Christmas for a treat for myself.

Never seen it anywhere but Whole Foods. I like it because there are so many flavors. Glad you liked The NY Times link.

Nothing better than going to a spa. Facials & massages are the bomb.

@Primula, is your Whole Foods anywhere close to Penzey?
Yes, about one block away. It's a very nice store that you would enjoy. My vet is on the same street - Raymond Road.
