Today #1, Rahja opened her eyes! She looks so grown up! The two boys haven't yet, but won't be long.

Stripes #2 has stopped making the strange breathing sound altogether, his got his meow back too, so I wonder if it was a little fluid on his chest from their birth x

Eyes wide open!

The boys haven't opened their eyes yet is this ok?

Weights today at 9 days old
#1 279g
#2 237g
#3 280g

I'm weighing them 24 hourly now is this ok?

Mummy cat is doing fantastic, she's never looked happier than she does when she's in the nest with her babies! Really proud of her x

Its about day 9 now, yes?   So dont worry for a  three four days as yet...

Weighint every 24 hours is good.  Its if they are in crisis its wise to weight them every 12 hours.    If they are visibly thriving and everything OK you may even take it every second day now...

Yes stefanZ today is day 9, so I think it could be any day now, I think they may be starting to open from the inside corner.

I was weighing every 12 hours for the first 7 days, but they've been gaining between 10 & 20g per 24hrs so I have left them longer now, I'll go to every second day as to disturb them less now :)

They look so sweet!

You might want to take mom's collar off for now, though.  A clumsy kitten could get caught in it.

I never even thought of that and she's had it on from the beginning! They're really big now, I don't think they could squeeze under it, but not worth the risk so I'll take it off!

When is she allowed back outside, and when am I able to get her spade? These fluff babies are wonderful and will all have loving forever homes, but I'm aware of the abandoned cat problem and I don't want to add to it x

I think they could still get a leg stuck.  Better to be careful.

Mom can't go outside at all until she is spayed.  Cats can get pregnant basically any time after delivery without even going into heat.  She can be spayed when they are 8 weeks old, though.  Will you be getting the babies fixed before they go to their new homes?

Yes I was hoping to, I want planning on sending them to their new families until they were 12 weeks old at least. They are being homed with family members who will take good care of them :)

Collar is now off! I'll keep it off until she's outside again x

They are all wonderful! Mummy cat is simply amazing, she's such a good mum to them all!

I'm looking forward to seeing them develop over the next couple of weeks too x

Hi again,

All babies are doing wonderfully, I just have a few questions for the next few weeks?

1) when do I worm and flea treat the babies?
(They don't have any worms or fleas that I can tell, and mummy cat hasn't been outside for about 5 weeks)

2) when do I start letting them try wet/dry kitten food?

3) they are getting bigger and a little more mobile now, when is ok to move them from the nest in the wardrobe to a puppy pen in the kitchen say?

4) are there any other tips/advice I should know now they're coming up for three weeks old?

Thanks :)

1) Kittens are wormed at their first vet appointment at 8 weeks, and again 2 weeks later. They can get a flea treatment at that age as well if it is needed.

2) Dry kitten chow can be offered at 4 weeks when their baby teeth are in. Soft, pate-style wet food can be offered beginning at this sge too, though kittens wean better at 5-6 weeks, and some as late as 8 weeks. They will also still nurse from mom.

3) Once they start eating solids they will need putting into a kitten-sized litter pan before and after meals. Kittens usually catch on quickly.

Here is a kitten growth chart that may help:

Hi guys

Very worried about mummy cat Lilly,

One of her nipples has become red and sore

Looks like someone's been rough when nursing!

Anyway she's feeding them with encouragement, and not showing any sign it's painful when she does, she still lies there putting, but she's just not so keen to hop in the nest now?

I have kmr at the ready but zero idea on how to feed them, they are now 3weeks old (on Monday)

X

Can you get her to a vet? If it's mastitis she'll need an antibiotic.
