Need help!

We are scheduled to put down our 7 1/2 year old cat tomorrow morning. We adopted her from a shelter when she was five years old. She lived in the shelter her entire life. Almost immediately she started having trouble with vomiting and pooping outside of the litter box. Some of the issues were taking care of because she had teeth that needed to be removed. Early on through blood work they found out that she has hyperthyroidism. We put her on medication that seemed to help. But after a few weeks or months of being on the medication she always went back to normal. We have taken her to three different vets at three different practices and we always end up back at square one. A few weeks ago she ended up getting an upper respiratory infection and stopped eating for a few days. We were able to get her to start eating again but she lost a lot of weight and has no muscle anymore. She struggles with jumping on furniture. She weighs under 3 pounds. The past few weeks we've noticed that she can't stop pooping everywhere and has accidents all the time. She won't even clean herself anymore. She definitely sleeps more and does seem sad. But she still eats and drinks like normal. She does still want some attention. A month ago we had an ultrasound done and everything came back perfect. They don't understand why this is happening. If I knew she was miserable and that her condition is fatal, I would have no problem putting her down to end her misery. But I can't help but feel that maybe there is something else we can do. My husband is worried because we just brought home a newborn and we have other cats to consider as well. Everyone else thinks it's time to put her down. Does it sound like I've exhausted all my options? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Im freaking out and my heart is broken. I dont know what to do :(

I still can't help but think this has something to do with her hyperthyroidism or the medication she is on fro it. You need to find a different medication or a different diagnosis, There is a procedure that is given as medication to kill part of the thyroid and cure hyperthyroidism, then no more need for meds. Has that been mentioned? There still may be some undiagnosed ailment or disease she has, it could even be allergies. But if she has had every test you have done all you can. My heart goes out to you, especially at a time like this when you are so busy with your baby. Whatever the outcome, you gave this beautiful little one a home and a life when no one else could, you have given her something priceless and she loves you very much for it. It was meant to be that she shared your life for a little while, she would never want you to be so sad and upset over something you have no control over. I would try one more vet and one more medication or see what diagnosis they come up with,or go back to one and insist they find out what is wrong, then you know you have done all you can. You will be blessed for your helping and loving this little one, I'll pray for a miracle for you. May God bring peace and health to this sweet little girl and if it is not to be, gather her onto His lap to end her pain. Take care......

Was she put down? And if not at what time tommorow? Its to sad to hear something like this happen, i lost my cat to mammary tumors, if you still have time try calling some vets (online or outside your area) to see if it ever happened before. If you think your cat really is suffering too much then its for the best. Our kiro was suffering the last week to a point that she had no muscle nor fat and she couldnt eat, sleep, walk or go to the bathroom. We decided to put her down but she died at the vets table naturally.
If there is no way for your cat to be cured putting her down is the best thing for her, im sure she had a great life with you. A quote that made me feel better about euthanasia is that you aren't putting your pet down, you are taking their pain and making it your own. I wish you all the luck

Definitely consider what Di and Bob stated before you get her euthanized. There is a procedure that cures hyperthyroidism in almost every case. It doesn't even cost that much to have it done. I believe its called radio iodine treatment. It's simply an injection. The the problem is that it's a radioactive injection so your cat has to stay a week or so at the clinic while the stuff wears off. You can expect a full recovery afterwards though so long as everything is good to begin with her internal organ wise. Also you shouldn't be worried about your other pets or children. It's not something that can be transmitted.
Im not sure why your vet hasn't mentioned this as an option to you already.
