I just got my sweet kitty a couple of days ago. I live in an apartment and she is an indoor kitty, but my door leads right to the outdoors, so I want to get her a collar with a tag just in case she does slip out.

I like the engraved plates that can be added on to collars, but I'm having a hard time finding that one that is FOR cats. Do any stores do those? I'd prefer it to a hanging tag.

Alternatively, are there any DIY solutions I can do in the meantime/permanently that don't involve embossing?

I got mine at Boomerang as a collar and tag combo:

I've also done breakaway tags with embroidery in the past:

I personally don't like the hanging tags because I have a fear of them falling off (I know my sisters dogs are constantly loosing their hanging tags). One of our three has a hanging tag simply because he likes to click it against things and gets upset if he doesn't have it .... he is a little odd.

One of the home solutions I have heard is to write the name and number with a sharpie directly on the collar and wrapping a piece of packing tape around it. Or to put a piece of duct tape around a section, write on the duct tape and them put the packing tape over it as a clear barrier. Both of those you have to check on a regular basis for wear and tear.

I got these collars. They are breakaway and they let people know that the cats are NOT outdoor cats and asks that they be returned home if they are found. They have an option for a collar with a tag or for an embroidered collar

I second the Boomerang recommendation. The mini version is just the right size for cats.
Our cat used his hanging tag to pull off multiple collars and destroy them. When we tried embroidered collars, the first one lasted a day and the second three or four, because he broke the clips by deliberately snagging them on the balcony cat net and pulling.

A Boomerang tag on a Beastie Band has proved to be the perfect combination.

Any pet store should have a selection of tags in a small size for cats. I know the engraving machine at Petco stores has a small cat sized tag.

GoTags.com is where I buy my cat's ID tags from. Both have the mouse shaped metal ID tags:

The second tag underneath is their rabies tags that the vet gives after vaccination.

Etsy.com has many homemade pet ID tags in various shapes and sizes and designs if you want something more unique.
