I ve had this happen 3 x this year. Psycho goes off his food not entirely but cuts back. He s 9 and has been on Prozac for 7 years. The vet has adjusted his dosage a few times which has helped.
The first time was last February when my daughter came with a new baby and stayed a week. He would cruise by the food but not eat. His vet gave me Mirtz to give him after checking him out and doing blood work . Everything was fine. We also lowered his Prozac dosage.
Then in May we moved and the same thing happened. Mirtz and he was back to normal again. The Mirtz was given only one time each time .
Recently I tried weening him off his Orijen because the company changed the formula and I wanted to try another food. Same thing again. I just gave him Mirtz last night so we ll see what happens this time.
It seems to me this inappetance is all phychological since everything else is normal. Anyone ever experience this with their cat?

My question is, why has your vet kept your cat on prozac for SEVEN YEARS?!

We tried to ween him off several times but his quality of life is terrible. He s fearful, nervous and won t eat at all. I know the Prozac is not optimal but we ve weighed the alternative and his quality of life is much better with it. If it shortens his life at least he would have been happy.
That was not my question however, so I would appreciate input on my original question .
