Canned food and little flies

Ever since I started feeding my cats canned food, I have had these little flies getting into it and also in the cat box. They are disgusting! How do I get rid of them and why are they suddenly infesting my house?

Hello Kittykisser, are you refering to fruit flies? Tiny ones?

Get a small plastic container bowl and fill it with a little soapy water and vinegar. Cover with cling wrap and place a rubber band to secure the cling wrap to the mouth of the bowl. Then poke a few holes big enough for the flies to go in. This will trap them. They can get in but cannot get out.

You may consider smaller cans or envelops.

At the end of the road. saving by buying larger cans but spending more to remove the consequences of this option does not make sense to me.
