My sweet Cheshire Cat is so snuggly and loving. He is such a momma's boy, and I love it! But he has an issue with peeing on the couch!! Not spraying, but full on peeing!! It only happens when I'm sleeping on the couch!! At first, I thought he was attracted to the smell from a previous accident, but I have cleaned and scrubbed with several home remedies and off the shelf enzymatic cleaners. And like I said, only when I fall asleep on the couch!! The only exception is that a couple of times I have had food and am covered up with a blanket and push him away, he has peed. I don't know how to get him to stop!! I scoop the litter box first thing in the morning, as soon as I get home from work, and right before I go to bed, so I know it's not that! Any advice to deter him?! I really enjoy snoozing on the couch, especially when I'm off work! But I don't like having to scrub my couch every few days!

Also, he will be 1 March 19 & this has been happening for quite some time & started happening before I got my second kitty, so I've ruled out it being about any other pets bc they are my only two fur babies

What sex is the other cat and how many litter boxes do you have?

Are your boys neutered? Have you taken him to the vet to check about a medical issue, like a uti?

Other kitty is female. 1 litter box in the bathroom. I have a small apartment, so not much room for a second littler box. But again, this was an issue before I got my second cat

Neither male nor female are fixed yet. Last vet visit was back in September when he got his final round of boosters and everything was fine.

He is a year old and feeling his oats. He's marking you as his special lady ;). It would be a good idea to have him neutered as soon as possible. Tomcats mark things with urine (sometimes spraying, sometimes full-out peeing), that's just what tomcats do.

How old is the female? There will be kittens very soon if they aren't fixed!

His smell is in the couch and I imagine it is hard to get rid of it completely. Maybe you can't smell it but he does. Now there is a female using his box. Find space and get a second box.

He needs a check up. Something like a uti can develop quite quickly and sometimes the only sign you'll see is the cat peeing somewhere they shouldn't.

Do you plan to spay and neuter soon? That will help too.

Uh, oh, I saw in another thread that the female is 8 months old? She will need to be spayed very soon to avoid pregnancy, if she's not pregnant already :/. The only thing that might prevent pregnancy is that a 10-month-old male may not know what to do yet. But he'll figure it out soon! I'd recommend having the female done first (if you can't have them both done at the same time) because the male may remain fertile for a little while after neutering (sperm hiding in the tubes) whereas a spayed female simply can't get pregnant no matter what.

If you need help finding a low-cost place, let us know, someone should know of something!

But anyway, yes, 10 months is a prime age for starting tomcat behaviors. That's probably what the peeing is about, although, yes, it could be an infection. But I think tomcattery is more likely.

Agreed. Please separate your cats until she is fixed. She's much too young to get pregnant and it could happen at any time.

Elvira hasn't exhibited any signs of sexual maturity, and she runs away anytime Cheshire gets all up in her "business," so I think it's safe to assume she's not pregnant. I will be getting her fixed within the next couple of weeks, then I will be getting him fixed soon after. Hopefully this will stop his inappropriate potty behavior and I can start sleeping with my bedroom door open again! (he pees the bed every time he goes in there and that's more difficult to clean every day than the occasional couch potty).

Heats can be silent, and especially first heats. You really should separate them.
