Hi all,

We adopted this cat from our next door neighbours.

As far as we know he's just a regular British shorthair, however we were wondering if any of you think he might have any distant Bengal in him? We think this due to his belly markings.

We don't mind either way he's adorable !! Just curious if anyone would be so kind to share their thoughts xxx

Not British shorthair, this is a breed, they are usually quite rounded, teddy bear so to speak.

You mean probably a domestic shorthair.

And I will agree, a domestic shorthair.  That said, he is not the most common tabby.   He may be broken mackerel tabby sort off, but I think he is spotted tabby for real.  Not unique, but not that common either.

Probably no bengal connection.  Or very distant if any.  As said, you dont need to have a bengal ancestor to be spotted tabby.  There are spotted tabbies quite naturally.

A sweet and nice cat!

We had a female silver mackerel with spots when I was a child, who had very similar looking markings as your handsome chap.  She was definitely a domestic shorthair, and I very much doubt there were any Bengal cats on the Isle of Wight at all 30+ years ago for her to have descended from.

I wish my neighbours had such a lovely pusscat for me to adopt!  He looks the cat's whiskers

Aw thanks brian you must've had a beautiful cat [emoji]128578[/emoji][emoji]11088[/emoji]️ We are so lucky to have him. I tell him he is beautiful every day. He understands in his own cat like way [emoji]128578[/emoji] Lol, I've even told him about all the lovely comments from you and others on this lovely website! Xx [emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]10084[/emoji]️

It's such a privilege to give him love, food and shelter. When we first met him over 2, years ago he was cold, wet, hungry and outside a lot. He was about 50% feral. Very scared of people.

He has made himself right at home. He is still scared of Scary Plastic Bags. He still can't understand he will never need to worry about being hungry again. He eats every meal like its his last meal bless him. Such sweet loving souls, all cats xx
