My 9 months old DSH kitten ate a ScarAway strip. (1.5 x 3 inches, it's like a cloth-type bandage with a thin layer of silicone). I didn't actually see her eating it, but I saw her smacking although there's not food out, and I cannot find one of those strips anywhere (I use 2 every night), so I assumed she ate it. And, she has a tendency of pica. She loves to chew and swallow any paper, regular white paper or kleenex. I try to keep those stuff out of her reach.

I took her to our regular vet right away, and they induced vomiting using an anesthesia drug (its side effect is vomiting, they said). But we couldn't find anything like the strip in the vomit. The vet said we need to wait for another 2-3 days, and if she doesn't pass it, we'll need to do barium + x-ray to locate where it is, then we may do endoscopy or surgery.

Now she is just lying down because of the drugs. I'm going to pay very close attention to the litterbox for the next few days. I am very worried. Is there anything else I can do for her? I was told I could feed her as usual, although she doesn't go near her food right now.

Thank you in advance.

Poor baby. Sounds like you are doing everything you can.

Probably want to keep an eye on her food intake and make sure she doesn't go more than 24 hours without eating something. Maybe grab a small container of stage 1 meat baby food (no onion or garlic) that usually tempts even kitties with a sour stomach to eat. You could also cook up some chicken in the crock pot with just water and mix it with some plain white rice. She'll probably love it and it will be easy on her tummy.

Hopefully it passes soon.

Thank you for your advice, Kieka :)

I was thinking I would probably need to give her some stinky canned food after the drugs wear off, but she started to eat her regular raw food on her own. 6 hours after the vet visit, she ate a little. Another 6 hours later at around midnight, she finished her regular amount. She also ate the leftover of the other cat. She was back to her normal self by that time.

Today she has been normal, and pooped once in the afternoon, but I couldn't find anything like the ScarAway strip in it. The vet said it would take 2-3 days, so I will keep watching...

Oh the joys of poop watch! But that's all you can do right now till you see something. It's good that she's eating her food again and has pooped.
