Hi all need some support. Our Tiger was diagnosed last Monday with Heart disease and was in CHF. The cardiologist said he may have a few weeks to a few months. My hubby. And I are just heart broken. He is on Vetmedin and Lasix and 90% of the time he sleeps. We r yo start 2 addl meds today. We feel as if the meds are working as we hoped. He still does not have an appetite he is only semi normal for like 5 mins and then goes back to sleep. Has any one every experienced this? Advice / support is welcomed.

On this one, all I can offer you is support.  HOWEVER, we have a LOT of members with good experience and knowledge, and once one answer comes in, others tend to follow, so I thought I'd get this noticed.  I do know that cats can fool you, and there have been several who have led content lives far longer than the vet thought possible.  Hand in there.

You have come to the right site!  This is one of the most caring cat sites on the internet.  Welcome, and we will do whatever we can to support you, your husband AND Tiger.  Make sure you go to New Cats on the Block and introduce yourselves, post a pic of Tiger (we love pics), and even link back to this thread, so more people will see it!  Hugs, Darlin, I will be thinking of you guys!

Welcome to TCS Leighla. So sorry to hear Tiger's diagnosis. Sleeping a lot is normal for this condition and the simplest of activities makes them so tired. Try to encourage some eating and drinking. Have food and water next to him so he sees/smells it when he wakes up. Try warming his food up. Try broths and treats. Nutri-cal can add calories and nutrition. Very important to get some food in him. So sorry for the hard days you have ahead.

Thank all so much. The meds don't seem to be working on my baby. It makes me so sad.

My Thomas lived with CHF for 9 months was put on Vetmedin, Benazepril, Lasix and Spironolactone (another diuretic) after seeing a cardiologist.  The combination helped him.  You may want to ask about the Benazepril (helps dilate the blood vessels so the heart doesn't have to work so hard to get blood throughout the body).  Has your vet done x-rays to see if there is fluid in the chest?  Thomas had to have the fluid drained from his chest a couple of times.  The third time, however, draining didn't help as his disease progressed.  The vet may want to adjust the dosage of the meds.  With Thomas, we had to increase the Vetmedin dose and added the Spironolactone.  The first two chest taps brought him relief for about 4 months each time and he would be back to his old self.  It's just in that last week where he developed difficulties.

Sending prayers and hugs to your baby.
