Last night around 6 pm my sweet boy, Fred, collapsed and died. He was a healthy, playful 6 year old boy right up until he collapsed. I know there was nothing I could have done to prevent this or save him but I feel so much guilt. I am in total shock. I still need him, I thought we had many more years together. This wasn't supposed to happen. His humans and his 2 fur brothers miss him. How do we get through this?

You get through it by holding on to and loving those around you even more. You gave Fred what he wanted the most in this life, a home and a family with all the  love and caring that goes with it.  He was called away much too soon, take comfort in the precious memories you have, of all the good times you shared, of all the little quirks he had that made him so unique and special. Celebrate having him in your life, that he shared your life's journey for a while. Now although that journey will continue along a new path, it will parallel yours until those roads cross again in the distant future. Don't let sadness rule your world, he would never want that. He only wants the best for those he loved and left behind, his new place in your heart and the bond that binds him there can never be taken from you, use it to send your prayers and love. The love that you shared was, and still is, spiritual. Your souls are intertwined for eternity.

Please know we all here at this site share your sorrow, we know the pain of loss, the emptiness that invades your home and heart. Time is the only thing that brings comfort. He is a part of your past now, a good part, and the future will bring sunshine once again, your memories will bring a smile to your life instead of tears. A broken heart takes a long time to heal, but with the help of those who understand and can share your pain, it heals until it is once more able to feel the love of those who have gone before us and know for a little while we shared a beautiful journey with a little one that forever resides in our hearts and memories. Take care, thank you for letting us know of this beautiful boy called Fred. We will send our thoughts and prayers to comfort you both, he will be so dearly missed......... RIP sweet Fred, although you are gone from this world, you left your mark on the souls of those who love you so very much. You will never be forgotten and your pure light will shine down for eternity on those who love you so very much. Sleep tight, sweet Prince!

That is the animal life, we do not know sufficient to prevent such sad events.

Your Fred boy spent a happy life with You, and You were his beloved guardian. That matters. Happiness is not something all cats are rewarded and I dare to say that not even part of the humans enjoy.

Nice memories will never end.

Cat nose kiss to Fred and my warm, comforting  thoughts to You.

I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. I lost my boy very suddenly this past week too, so I'm dealing with the shock and loss right along with you.

I know in the end we will be all right, but it just hurts a lot right now.  Be gentle on yourself, and take much comfort in the face that you gave Fred a really good life.

I won't lie, it hurts like heck losing a kitty on the spot as you lost Fred.  I lost two kitties last year, my boy, who I knew was headed in that direction and then in December my sweet girl, who was ill, but we were getting a handle on her health, died as I watched her cleaning her sweet paws after eating her lunch.

She was happy with a full belly and all of a sudden she had (I believe) a stroke, and within minutes my sweet gal was gone.  It was a shock, one I'm still tearing up about.

Don't deny yourself the right to grieve.  It's important that you allow tears to flow.  I don't have answers on why your sweet boy was taken from you at the age of 6, that to me is just cruel.   Perhaps there was an underlying condition that was never detected, either way, don't blame yourself.

No loss is ever easy. I hope you find peace & comfort in the memories Fred left in your heart.

Prayers to you and your family.

I found that posting pictures and telling stories about my kitties helped me during this process, please feel free to post pictures of Fred, we'd love to see pictures of your angel.

My Simon & Chestnut will take care of him, xoxo

We lost our boys the same day... I'm experiencing the same feelings of guilt as well, but we know we did what we could. It's so hard, but don't forget family and friends in a time like this. Whatever you do, don't bottle it up. Let it out.

Fred looked so cute and sweet. He's still with you.
