I have not used Advecta itself but it is a new GENERIC version of ADVANTAGE II, and as such, I would expect it to be safe. I have used Advantage and Advantage II for years. The main ingredients are the same as Advantage II, so the only difference in a new product is the OTHER ingredients, those that make it spread through the coat etc. It's a lot safer than some of the new products Bayer is coming up with, in my opinion, like the Seresto collars and the Profender spot-on wormer, which I would NEVER use on my cats. Now that the older safe products are no longer protected by patent rights, other companies are producing them for less money and the big companies like Bayer are trying new gimmicks to sell at the higher prices, and some of them are proving unsafe for a significant number of animals. If your cats have been fine with Advantage II, they should be fine with Advecta.
I have only used Vectra and Revolution in the past.
However, due to their high cost, I don't use them on a monthly basis and I've been revisiting the flea prevention question.
I know that not everyone uses flea prevention for indoor cats, so I'm not sure how necessary it is. I have a cat and goldfish only household, no dogs here.
I do take 2 out of 3 of my cats out on a leash once in awhile and one of my cats likes to bolt out the door on occasion.
I've also contemplated just bathing the cats once a week with flea shampoo. Would that help prevent infestations?
