Hi all. Every couple of days Ru throws up. Sometimes he throws up food. Not a lot. And sometimes it is just clear. It doesn't happen every day or even every time he eats. He has a vet appointment on Friday. He isn't acting differently or refusing food or water. Could this be from trying to get up a hairball? Or should I be more concerned that he may be sick? Is there anyway if it is from hairballs that I can do to help him? I feed him science diet indoor. He doesn't eat fast so I don't think it's from that.

Is he playing normally and using the box normally? What are you feeding him? Dry or wet? Brand?  How old is he?

We have to go to the vet so I'm not sure how old he is. The lady giving him away didn't know either. She said she had him for four months and just didn't want him to go to a shelter. I have had him for a week. He acts pretty normal. He is a laid back cat and mostly likes to cuddle. I am feeding him science diet indoor. Dry food. He doesn't throw up every time he eats or even all that much. He hacks like he is going to cough up a hairball. Throws up either food or a teaspoon worth of water/clear fluid. Hides for 20 minutes and then goes back to normal. The hiding freaked me out at first because I haven't yelled at him or even been upset by it. But it seems like he gets scared. He comes back out when I call him and nothing else seems wrong.

It's a good idea to get him to the vet. If you can, get a video of him of the coughing. It sounds like what my asthmatic kitty does when she her asthma is acting up.  However, it could be that he's trying to hack up a hairball.  I'd try putting him on a higher quality wet food and see if that helps.

You may keep some of your cat "throughaway". You may also film the cat when is doing this. Show the box and the film to the vet.

Do not assume anything when describing the event to the vet. He/she knows the best whether this is hairball, regurgitating of throwing away (regurgitating is throwing something before reaches the stomach, while vomiting is the content of the stomach and intestine- sometime).

Just be detailed in your description: when, how, how many times per day/week, how much, nature of the vomit, either is clear liquid or contains un-digested food.

Be specific in what food do you feed the cat: wet, dry, free or three times a day, brands, quantities, times of the day.

Be as factual as possible, but concise.
