That's good to hear that it's a dramatic difference. This has been this problem for the cat before she came here to us, but my friend was home more than we are so pooping outside the box wasn't as much as it is here.

We have only had her a short while but love her already!
Ahhh I see! You might want to try the actual litter then, if it's been a problem for a while (: I'm planning on weaning Belle back to regular litter eventually -- but right now I'm just happy not to have to clean up poop and pee every day, haha.

Any update on your cat attract poop saga?

For us, fresh cat attract litter she was fine and pooped (mostly) in the box. It's now a week later and she started pooping outside again. My husband even topped up with fresh but nope. We did have a visitor stay with us over the weekend so maybe she was stressed because of that. I guess we will see how the rest of the week goes. I don't want to have to change the litter completely after only 1 week! It's expensive!!!

Have you tried adding a second box?

If you buy it from chewy.com, it costs just about the same as any clumping litter. Which still isn't cheap, I would hate to have to change it once a week! But at least cheaper than most stores. Also, you might try getting some of the Cat Attract additive and use that when the attractive odor wears off the litter. Probably cheaper that way.

Another option that some cats prefer is to put a fairly thin layer of litter in the box and change it every couple of days, instead of using a lot of litter. Sometimes it takes a little experimenting!

We are in Canada so very few places sell it.
We have tried two, different sizes, positions etc. She doesn't like it against the wall and we think it might be night poops too. Today she pooped in the box but it was overnight she did the outside box poops. We are going to leave a light on for her tonight and see if it helps!

I watched this cats from hell video on tv about cats who pee everywhere. It's usually their way of communicating something. The guy made the owners mark everywhere the cat was peeing and anywhere he peed three times they put a litter box there. They did other stuff too I think they got a bigger litter box for the cat (sometimes i guess it's the size they care about.) Also apparently pooping out of the litter box means they were insulted in some sort of way about something.

@slee123  cats are nocturnal by nature and can see in the dark.  I'm very interested to know if leaving a light on makes any difference.  I leave a light on when I go out in the evening, even though I know it won't make a difference to my cat's vision, but it makes me feel better and hopefully is a comfort to him.

Pooing just outside the box can be due to old age and mistiming or bad aim.  That she doesn't do it when you're looking at her could be because she's concentrating on getting it right to please you.  Put something plastic or another material that you can easily clean under the box, as a safety net.

So since my last post she has had 3 poops. 2 in litter (day time poops) and 1 at night. The one at night, I watched her as she tried to get comfy in the litter. After a couple of tries she jumps out. I check to see if any poo or pee and it's clean. So I go get ready for bed and I hear her clawing the box (She digs before and after a wee). I wait and hear a fainter digging sound (should have known this is her digging on the tiles outside the box) and then we discover poop on the floor. I check the litter box and there's a fresh wee. So within minutes of me watching her and leaving her alone she has peed and pooped. Maybe we need a second box again just in case of these situations?? We are trying to find a larger box (the larger one we have is too high for her).

Do add a second box. I think she wants options.

I do have an update! So it's been about a month since I bought Cat Attract for Belle and she's peed only in the litter box and pooped on the floor twice... A MASSIVE difference from pooping/peeing on the floor every single day, haha. It certainly seems to be helping me! I believe the second time she went outside of the litter box was my fault; I got up to go to the bathroom just when she was about to use the litter box and frightened her away, and I think that put her off of the box for the night.

@slee123 I'd definitely recommend getting another litter box! She sounds like a cat who's very particular about her litter box, haha. I have one litter box that has walls, and I put normal cat litter in that one. The other one is wide, round, and has absolutely no walls at all -- this is the only one Belle will go in, albeit that may only be because of the Cat Attract litter in it, haha. It's not in a tight corner either, and it's very near my bed (so that way she has an escape route!) So maybe look at where your cat likes to hide, perhaps, and put the new litter box near there? Make sure it's quiet area. Like I said, I think I scared Belle off from her litter box one night -- she really had to go and she didn't feel safe using the box at that moment. Good luck! Keep us posted!

The plastic dropp
You can get pee pads cheaper on Amazon, too, if you don't have a warehouse club membership. If you can't find a good price on puppy pads, look for underpads made for humans with incontinence. Just search for "underpad", that should find the right thing. They're bigger and more absorbent than puppy pads too. They have plastic lining so they protect the floor better than paper towels, if it saves your floor it will come out cheaper!

Cat Attract litter/additive is worth a try too. Also try a large shallow flat container, like an underbed sweater container (they don't cost very much). Some cats don't like deeper boxes and like to have lots of room to turn around.
The plastic dropping pans made for use at the bottom of rabbit cages might be of help to some who are needing a wide, shallow tray. I usually get ours at Tractor Supply, but here's an example on Amazon. They're available in several sizes.
