Hi! Please help with my blind male 4 year old cat.

So first off, he has been sick for about 3 months with different things and then last week he tested positive for FelV wich we think is what was making him so susceptible to being sick. Hes had diarrhea off and on for over a month and we should have done a fecal test first but we had so many other health issues to deal with and we thought it was a reaction to medication or nerves from moving ect plus the vet recommended against it. I know now to ALWAYS do the fecal because it could have prevented the prolapse :/ Anyways about the prolapse....
He had a prolapsed rectum on Thursday night, i discovered it when i got home from work and unfortunafely that meant the tissue was not as pink and fresh as we would like but the vet was still able to push it back in after using sugar rub to reduce the swelling.as soon as i got him home it prolapsed again and i immediately took him to the vet, they did the purse string suture rectum repair they said everything went fine and the sweeling was already receding. He is on a bland diet for the diarrhea and im giving him metronidazoles 2x daily for 10 days. We are waiting for the results of the fecal test to see what exactly is causing diarrhea.

My question is ( haa sorry for nicks life story but i thought ud appreciate the in depth information)
His poop is starting to solidify! Yay! But problem is now i can see he is straining to push it out because it is more solid. I watched him trying to push it out (the things us cat moms will do [emoji]128514[/emoji]) and the sutures stayed but i could tell their was outward movement like it REALLY wanted to pop out. thank god it didnt but this still makes me really nervous! Is it a bad sign if he cant push a nice solid poop out? And now that its more solid its also the first time ive seen a little blood in his poop.should i be worried or is this all just part of the healing process?

Question number two, as he still has diarrhea after the procedure hes pooping everywhere! Ive secluded him in a large play pen in my room and keep it as clean as possible. The tricky thing is he is gettting poop all over his stiches too and this makes me veeeeerry nervous. The vet said i could dab with warm water but definitely no rubbing wich keeps it cleaner but he hates it or anytime im anywhere close to the area. But i gotta do it anyway (sorry nick) is there any thing else i can do?

Last one promise, ive been told about adding pumpkin to his diet.i may just mix it with his bland food from the vet what do you suggest or what info do you have on this?

Im a new cat mom and my nick is so special to me, he was a very special rescue from an amazing local organization and hes been through so much already, but my god is he strong willed the things this cat has been through! Sorry for the long email! Im sure You can tell i care lots for him and will do anything to see him through this!
This is my first post! Yay cat community!

Gosh, about the only question I can answer for you is that right now it's normal for there to be a little bit of fresh blood in his stool, with his diarrhea issue and now some solid stool.

As far as dabbing the sutures with warm water to clean off the diarrhea, wonder what good that's really doing.  Is he able to get back there and clean himself, or is he wearing a cone?  Poor guy
(for Nick)  and poor you for having to clean up the mess right now

On, on the pumpkin, yes, it's ok to just mix it into his wet food.  1 teas. per meal, up to 1 Tablespoon per day.  Canned plain pumpkin.

Bless you for taking care of him.
