Hello, over the last two days the two cats we have ,Brothers, playtime is exculating to fighting .
They will swat their tails aggressively and as they 'play' one, always the same one, will hiss and growl. I noticed tonight, the day that does not hiss/growl, the instigator, ears looks red and irritated. Probably from there fighting.
They are brothers, always been together. They are around 7.5 months and are both neutered.
I got several videos to show but need to upload.
Any help appreciated!! Thanks

Edit: here are videos

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear whether there was any vocalisation over the sound of the child. Playing shouldn't include growling, hissing, unsheathed claws, ears pinned back, hair standing on end or bites which cause trauma to the skin. Oh the other thing to watch for is whether the chasing and pinning to the ground is reciprocal. If it is, they are playing.

The clips I saw had the cat cornered in a box at the end of a corridor, it's a really good thing if you can give them places up high and on the ground where they can feel secure and not be cornered. When my cats were being introduced to each other I placed a tunnel in a doorway so that the cats could not feel as if they were being ambushed.

I have broken up fights by clapping my hands or on one occasion when I had a cushion handy, throwing it at them (not hard, just enough to get their attention) and separate them for awhile to allow things to calm down.

Avoid competition by having three litter trays, one for each cat and one extra. If you haven't, already, set up two feeding stations.

Give them interactive play sessions to release pent up energy.

You can see they do indeed love each other they are best friends I think you're right about maybe some other kinds of toys and stuff maybe to get his energy out so he doesn't bug brother when he doesn't want to play I'll have to take a look at Petsmart today maybe

Oh and these cats aren't being introduced to each other they have been together their whole life they are brothers . They do have places up high where they go . they had to choosen to play on the floor right then and there's a bunch of boxes I thought cats like boxes can definitely take the boxes away though ?

I know that they aren't being introduced, I was talking about stopping one from ambushing the other as they go through doors.

It's not the boxes themselves, it's where they are placed. They can't escape when they are cornered there. You don't need to take them away completely.

You need to be consistent when breaking up fights. Otherwise you won't be able to stop them from doing it. And positive reinforcement when they play together without fighting.
