If you have reason to believe she is preg, so she probably is.   Cats unlike humans cheat in their "shooting".  While we shoot and hope for the best  (hit OR miss, depending), cats have "seeking missiles" so to speak.  Combined with, the target becomes visible and open when the missile is on way...  So in practice there is a hit nearly every time with the cats.

The question is, if you wish to have the litter, or you prefer not to have it.  You can still choose if you so want.

Hey guys, my cat is getting close to delivery and I'm trying to make sure I'm prepared for anything that can happen. I've read that in some cases you have to intervene and cut the umbilical cord, can someone please talk me through the steps of doing this properly? I'm hoping I won't need to, I just want to make sure I know how if necessary. Thanks so much!

You wait till you are sure momma wont do it.  Its important there is no blood flowing longer, so its another reason its good to wait.  The only exception is  if the cord is wired around the neck of the kitten, and may suffocate it.  Or something similiar.

Ok, you use blunt scissors, or your nails.  Do not use sharp scissors - especielly not on a fresh cord.

Have clean hands and gears, but you dont need to be surgeon sterile - mommas teeths arent sterile.

My cat just had 3 little ones, and didn't give birth in any of the areas I prepared for her...there is an upright suitcase with old close at the bottom, and she had them in there! Everything is going good with them, I just have some concerns. I'm not sure how I can change out this "bedding" , or how she will easily get out and back in. I'm not sure she could move them out of the suitcase easily, as she gets in from the opening at the top. What are your suggestions? Thank you so much

Congratulations!  Sounds like she's found herself her own wee nest, you can't herd cats or so the saying goes.

I know absolutely nothing about cat pregnancy and birth but I suggest that you build a bridge from the bottom of the suitcase to the top and another one from the top to the floor.  Not being able to see the suitcase, I don't know what materials to suggest but bulking up piles of blankets might be a start.  And then let her get on with deciding whether she wants to stay in her nest or move her kitties.  As long as you're keeping an eagle eye on things and are there to lend a hand if and when anyone needs it.

Three wee furbabyballs, yay

Could you lay the suitcase on its side and prop it open for her? That way it would still be secure, but she needs to be able to stretch out to nurse.

Yes, agree with above. Gently turn suitcase on it's side so mom has room to stretch and nurse. Prop the lid open so she can come in and out, but has privacy still. [emoji]128571[/emoji]

Yeah, what they say about gently repositioning the suitcase, either on its side by rotating it clockwise or on its back by leaning it backwards ever so slowly until it rests on the ground.  It depends on their position inside the case as to which way you think will be less traumatic and safer for them.  Just do it super slowly and keep looking in the case whilst you're doing it, so that you can stop if you see someone accidentally getting squashed.  I'm kinda impressed with her choice of nest though, it looks wonderfully dark, safe, and cosy down there.

That's a great idea! Thanks so much guys. She hasn't gotten out to do anything but she was very hungry so I lowered and held her bowl so she could eat and drink, It would be good to make things easier for her.

How many kittens did she have?

Can you keep mom 100% inside and away from intact males until the kittens are weaned?  Do you plan to spay at that time?

Have you had a chance to switch the suitcase yet? I'm a little concerned that the kittens could get squished inside it the way things are now.

I haven't been able to do it, thankfully no one is in a position where they can be squished and mom cat is pretty tiny herself...but I don't think I can easily lay the case flat with her inside, I need to be able to lay a towel at the back and keep the clothes from falling on the little ones. My sister would really like to get her clothes out lol

You really need to readjust her and set her up in a better way asap. You also need to make sure that all of the kittens are ok. Wait until mom comes out to use the litter box and then act quickly.

Yes that's what I'm waiting for! She should be using the liter box soon, I can easily see her and the babies and they are all doing very well. She's never seemed this happy before. What would be the best and safest way to pick up and move the kittens? I have a better box prepared

How many are there? If she wants to stay in the suitcase, I would try to make that safe for her by lying it down on its back.

Hormones are pretty powerful! It's good that she's settling. Did you see the question above about keeping her inside?

Pick up each kitten one at a time. Make sure you support their bodies.

@Amadahy
 How are things going?
They are much better, still in the suitcase but now set up more comfortably and I've been able to change out the bedding. She seems so happy :) thank you for asking!
