My cat just gave birth early in the morning to two kittens. Now she seems really agitated and kind of our of breath. She also still seems kind of big, her belly was huge and she just had two kittens. Is it possible she is still pregnant?

It is possible that she still has kittens to deliver. Believe it or not, there can be some hours between deliveries. How is she doing with the kittens she has birthed so far?

Thank goodness for that! So she may have just been panting & exhausted before or there may be more to come. Two kittens is a nice number to have. Will you get her spayed eventually?

I see Primula gave good remarks.  Good momma is taking care of the already born babies.  Otherwise YOU would be forced to step in.

My guess is, she either has some aftercontractions - which is normal -  OR she has one or two left.

Normally, a pause is OK as long as she is OK no visible troubles, but as your catmomma seems agitated, it means the situation is still touchy...  Observe closely and be ready to help out if need be.

And please do report - we are anxiously following.

Keep a close eye on her, if she becomes ill acting or doesn't get smaller, call your vet, it would be terrible if she had some more kittens and can't get them out. If she gets quiet and cares for her kittens she'll be all right. Once again, only YOU know what is normal for her, so watch closely for the next couple of days. Agitation is a sure sign of something being wrong, calm is what you want. beautiful family!

That crossed my mind also. But I did a search and 2 to 3 is pretty normal for a first litter. It's just that agitation that was odd. I don't know when you're suppose to go to first vet visit. Now I'm thinking out loud! lol  Your girl and her babies are precious.

I'm glad she settled!  Is she eating normally?  Using litter box normally?

Can you keep mom 100% inside and away from intact males until the kittens have weaned?  She can get pregnant again at any time now and without going into heat.

Maybe she just freaked out for a moment, this is all new to her and she doesn't know what to do next. As long as she is eating, acting normal, everything will be fine. It might be a good time to see if she'll eat some kind of kitten food, it is a lot more nutritious and she needs the extra calories, they always get thin when nursing. Good luck to you and your precious angels!

More pics please! We all love watching babies grow. And they do it so fast! I'm sure if she had any problems there would be signs. I'm a worry-wort, have always been. Pictures please, video would be even better!
