If you don't make it clear that you exist and are willing to fight, your humanity can be erased easily. It has happened before and will happen again, but maybe we can prevent some of it this time. You go girls! They're having one tomorrow in Sioux Falls but I have to work :/.

Happy Birthday Pam!  Have you considered celebrating on your half birthday instead of worrying about the weather?

Are you going to wear one of the pink 'pussy' hats at the march?  There was a news blurb about them.  They are knitted flat across the top and when you put it on it has small cat ears.  The knitting stores were running out of pink yarn because so many people were knitting them to send to the marchers.

Lordy, I see no point in these protests. I didn't vote for Trump, but we have to accept that we have him now for at least 4 years. What's the sense in tilting at windmills?
This was a small group of violent anarchists that marched with a peaceful protest.  At some point they started throwing rocks and bricks at cops.  The peaceful protesters scattered.

Stop. Please. Yes I am going to the March. It is my right as an American and as a woman.

Denice, seriously, if you really want to bring up a bunch of bad crap, do it in IMO. The purpose of my post here was to say that I am going to the March. Nothing more. I don't want to see the thread go sideways. Please.

Primula, it is my right to protest. At least for now we have free speech. You may not understand and that's fine. You may not agree and that's fine, too. But windmills be damned. I am American. I can do this. That's what being an American is all about.

Now drop it. Please.

That's my point. Obviously I don't object to anyone expressing their First Amendment Right to
Free Expression, but violence is very disturbing. As I said, there is no point to it anyway as DT was democratically elected & we must make the most of it. What are these folks hoping for - another presidential assassination?

Thanks Handsome Kitty! We did consider a summer party. For other reasons it didn't work out. I'd love to have the pink hat!

Lordy, where did I say you couldn't peacefully protest? I posted Wednesday to wish you a good time and to stay safe. You completely misunderstood my meaning so I am done with this thread. People need to chill.

Tensions are high today in the United States and yes, we all need to relax. Please, no more talk of protests or violence. I get enough of that everywhere else on the Internet. Take it the the IMO forum.

Happy Birthday, Pam! :party4: I hope the weather is nice for you tomorrow.

Thank you for your birthday wishes! They mean more than you know.

@Primula  my sincere apologies. I truly didn't mean to upset you. I do realize that you were being nice and I misread your post. My apologies.

Pam, you did not upset me. My only point was that I do not see the point of people getting upset at something that can't be changed. Nothing is going to change the fact that we're stuck with DT for at least 4 years. I am flabbergasted that 53% of white women voters voted for him. I can't begin to understand why they did that. I was shocked that he won, but at least I cast my vote the way I wanted to.

What I cannot accept is violence. I earlier sent this photo to Kat. I sat in a similarly-configured Dunkin Donuts this p.m. looking out of the window. The woman who was sitting here before the glass was broken could have been blinded just for having a cup of Joe.

Happy early birthday! I hope you had a great time at the March. My mom went to the one in Philly, and I am proud of her and you and any everyone else who participated around the world. I hope it leads to action in congress. We'll have to keep making our voices heard.

That said, I hope your rescheduled birthday plans, whatever they are, don't get snowed or iced out!! ;) Enjoy!

Thank you for the birthday wishes! Thank you for the PMs. We went, we saw, we marched (a little bit anyway; it was really hard to get around) and we talked to so very many people. It was amazing, it was powerful. And yet, those words don't even begin to describe it. I cannot tell you how many times I had tears in my eyes, being part of this was ..... I can't even begin to describe it. And knowing that the same thing took place in every corner of the globe. My god.

There were no problems. None. At least where we were. No police giving anybody a rough time. We never had to present ID. To be honest, we spent a lot of time, just talking to people. We are not alone in this. Far from it.

You know, you're always going to have those people who protest for the sake of protesting. Who enjoy rioting, smashing things, setting things on fire. Yesterday? We didn't see that. We did not see that. And, if I have to be honest, I was more than a little worried about that.
I could just see it: A soon-to-be 62 year old woman getting arrested for civil disobedience, missing my bus back home, all that good stuff. Nothing happened. Other than we got to meet amazing people, who had some really good stories about why they were there, about what it meant to them. I think I spent the day in awe.

Got home around 1:00 or so this morning. My sister had taken care of the cats and The Beast is in the kennel; Rick will go down later on this morning to bring her home. I was going to get our petsitter; my sister said, "You will not! I don't have the balls to go with you. But I can take care of your kids so that you can go!"
My son texted me, just to tell me that he was thinking of us. And to be careful. "Don't make me have to come to DC to bail you out, Mom!"

And if you don't mind, a shut-out to Dear Richard. You know, I married a truly spectacular man. The support that that man gives me is wonderful. There are times when I truly don't know what I'd do without him.

I do have some pictures, but we didn't take many. I'll post them when I can.

So there you go. It was history and I am so proud to be a small part of it.

I am glad things went well.  I think when something like this is big enough the small groups who start things can't.
