Hi. I have two little sister kittens who are best buddies, eat sleep and play together. They went in Monday to get spayed and since then the torty hisses and growls when the little ginger comes near. It's like she doesn't even know her. I have no idea what to do. I've tried rubbing thier blankets on them but she won't stop. Will this pass? Is this normal? Have I damaged thier bond? I'm worried sick. Please advise

If you figure they came home Monday evening/Tuesday night it has only been a little over 48 hours since the surgery. While the 24-48 hours is the normal time for things to settle after any surgery from the vet (basically time for the odd smells to wear off and the sensitive cat to realize that its still their buddy under the weird smell) there are times it can take longer so don't worry overly much.

The other consideration is that your little girl is still recovering from her own spay which could make her grumpy. Some humans, and animals, react differently to anesthesia and can be disoriented for a time after the surgery making them grumpy from that aspect. I know my boy is always grumpy and hissy on the pain medications for a good 72-80 hours after any surgery (because my vet gives a pain medication in all the surgeries that lasts for 72 hours from the surgery) and longer if I am giving him pain medications at home after the surgery meds wear off. She could just be hurting from the surgery and grumpy because she doesn't feel good. It could also be adjusting to the hormone changes if they were close to heat or had been in heat before; not only in smell of her sister but also her own internal changes and hormone fluctuations.

Give her until her incision is fully healed and any medications are out of her system before you start to worry too much.

@keika thank you so much for your reply. I think i am over tired and over thinking. I'll give it another few days and see how it goes. They are just such good friends i would hate for that the change. Thank you [emoji]128571[/emoji][emoji]128573[/emoji]

I rescued three littermates at 8 weeks old- 2 girls and a boy. The boy did not do well with the anesthesia after they were fixed and took a long time to come back to his normal sweet self. I was really worried- he was groggy for almost 4 days (while it was 24 hrs tops for the girls) and then it took about three weeks for me to rebuild his trust. He became very timid and shy and while not mean to his sisters, he wanted nothing to do with them and they had all been best buds prior to surgery. All was good in a month. Good luck!
