Hello everyone,

Earlier this week my cat Carrot was diagnosed with fatty liver disease. He stayed at the vet for a couple days and came out with an e-tube. Today is day 1, at home recovering. Has anyone experienced their cat salivating, and or peeing themselves instead of using the litter on the first day?? He's also very lethargic (hes on amoxicillin).

I am not sure about what might be causing the the salivating, but here is a link to an article by one of our vet members concerning e-tubes which is very useful.  http://www.iwillhelpyourcat.com/blog/2015/3/8/feeding-cats-that-wont-eat-at-all-pina-the-e-tube

As for peeing himself rather than using the litter box, if he was in a vet cage that did not have a litter box (some of them use pads like diapers or bed pads instead because litter can get in wounds), he may have gotten into the habit of just peeing when he needed to and not going to a litter box.  You may have to put him in the box a few times, preferably right after he wakes from a long nap, to remind him that he now has a litter box again and he doesn't have to just pee on himself.

Good luck with his recovery!

I have a kitty that survived fatty liver 6 years ago and he is still here and doing well.  Do you know what caused your kitty to quit eating and going into fatty liver?  With my Patches it was undiagnosed IBD.

Some kitties will do the salivating thing when nauseated.  They will also sometimes grind their teeth.  Is anything being given for nausea?  I haven't used it but Cerenia is supposed to be very good for nausea.  It is actually still off label use for cats, it was developed for motion sickness in dogs.  A lot of kitties here have been given Cerenia.

I don't remember Patches doing the thing with peeing but kitties with fatty liver are very sick and they feel very bad.  It is a slow recovery.  The main thing is getting enough calories in every day.  There is a supplement called Denamarin that you could ask your vet about.  I think it helped my kitty.

The extreme lethargy is part of it because it is a serious illness.  My other kitty does do the salivating and tooth grinding thing when she is nauseated.

I am truly sorry that you lost your sweet kitty, Carrot. He was still so young. I will never understand why these things happen. Just know that you did all you could for your precious baby. He was so loved and he knew that. He loved you just as much. My heart truly goes out to you.
RIP Sweet Carrot!
You will always be loved and missed so very much!
Please comfort the loved ones you left behind, as they will mourn your loss so deeply.

BTW, Is that your sweet Carrot in your avatar?
