I bought food in packets, particularly the Whiskas Ocean Fish. Should he be able to finish it in one go? Or is the 85 gram packet good for the entire day? If so, can I store the contents or will they go bad?

Name: Felix
Age: 14 months
Sex: Male

Hello FatFelix,

As a cat grows older, he takes in less food. Have you monitored or notice his eating patterns?

Some cats may eat more and some less. How many times is Felix fed in a day? What I can suggest to you is take note of how many times you feed him and the amount given. Start of with slightly less than usual and from there you can roughly gauge how much he'll eat at one sitting depending on how many times he's being fed.

This way will help you feed Felix better and also you won't waste the food. Are you feeding dry or wet? Or are you free feeding him with dry or sometimes wet and sometimes dry?

Dry food left out in open long enough will have bacteria growing on it as it turns soft due to humidity and that will be bad for your cat. On the other hand, wet food last longer in the open because it's already cooked except it'll turn try after awhile and you can just add some fresh water to make it damp again but not for dry food. Of course if you leave wet food out too long you may never know what had dropped in and maybe it's no good for Felix to eat.

So you just have to do this observation and you'll get the answer.

Thank you so much! I used to feed him Whiskas dry food, the one for kittens to 1 year cos he's used to that and he never seems to eat anything else. But it turns out when he transitioned into an adult cat, he can no longer tolerate the milk so he's had diarrhea and scabs from scratching. Now i've switched to wet food with tuna and salmon. He seems to be eating well, although I do think it's still quite small for an adult cat.

What breed is your cat? Some cats mature at 1 year and some takes 4 years. As long as your cat is eating well, not skinny, you can do a fat test by running your fingers along the ribs and feel if he's boney or not. If he's boney, feed him more protein based food (wet food) and if you can't feel the ribs, it means you have a fat cat and it's time for a diet.
How heavy is your kitty? If he weighs around 5 kilograms or roughly 11 lbs, he is in the good weight range ;)

I can feel his ribs. :( I've started him on a wet food diet now, although I mixed it with a bit of dry food because wet food is too expensive. I'm hoping he puts on weight soon. Thank you so much!

You are welcomed. Feed more protein based food. Dry food is full of carbohydrates and it's a wrong kind of fats.
