Hi! I am getting a kitten soon and was just wondering if there is any way I could keep it downstairs while I am away at school, but still be able let it gain access upstairs where I am able to supervise it. Downstairs is perfectly safe and there is plenty of room for it to explore as there is 4 bedrooms and a rumpus room. Upstairs, on the other hand, is out of the question. I hope this isn't too much to ask.

Thanks!
P.S I am new, so forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place or something like that.

Hello Luna-the-cat, welcome to TCS :wavey:

You can keep your new cat anywhere in your house as long as it is cat safe. Cat safe meaning that there are no escape route, no dangling electrical cables, no posisonous plants, no medications and no human food and no toxic cleaners that the cat may ingest as cats are inquisitive creatures.

Provide water and food, depending if you are feeding dry or wet or will there be someone home most of the time to feed your kitty. Also prepare a large enough litter box away from her food and make sure litter box is always cleared otherwise kitty won't have space to do it's business and they don't like dirty litter boxes.

It takes time for the kitty to get acclimatize to the surroundings. Just make sure kitty don't get freaked out by loud noises or sudden movements and most of all do give your kitty all your love and attention.

You can introduce yourself later when your new kitty arrives in 'New Cat on the Block' under the General Forums and get to know more cats here. Also do post photos of your kitty too.

Do ask questions and post the at the respective forum headings. You'll get to learn much from this site.

Here's something for you to read to get started

Excellent advice above.  Where are you getting your kitten?

If there's a door separating upstairs and downstairs, sure. Otherwise you may be out of luck. Most kittens eventually become excellent jumpers, and can jump over most obstacles you might use to block off a stairwell or doorway--for example, I tried a baby gate for my kitten. She had no problem jumping straight over it.

I am thinking of getting a ragdoll kitten or kittens, not sure where maybe Aragormore Ragdolls? Or Guysndolls Ragdolls? I am really unorganised.

Please plan well ahead before you get your kitten. Different breeds have different temperaments. Don't just go by the cuteness of the cat. Study the breed and it's behavior and what's sort of health problem it will encounter down the road. This will prepare you well and not expect surprises.
Choose a one that chooses you ;)
