I am not sure why her siblings died! The person who found them said he did trap neuter release and was always unable to trap the feral mother and she got pregnant. He said she was probably only able to nurse them a couple times before she was hit by a car that left her in the street. I believe he was attempting to bottle feed all five of them by himself (and he could've made a mistake) although he claimed to have bottle fed kittens before and was very emotional about the other kittens and the mother. He instructed me to get kmr formula and that if I didn't feed every 3 hours she could die and to keep her very warm. He only had the kittens for about 2-3 days so I don't know what may have gone wrong while they were in his care! She was 3 days old when I met her and she must've been with her mother for a few hours-1day.
So depressing! Sounds like he really didn't know what he was doing as all of them look viable in the photo.

She looks older than 17 days. . .was the guy absolutely sure when they were born? Anyway, sounds like she's doing great! Keep up the good work!

With her weight I was also wondering if she may be a little older although he seemed to be pretty sure, and must've somehow known where the mother was keeping her babies. She did weigh around 6.5 oz at 5 days old and her eyes didn't open fully until 16 days and just began to walk a couple wobbly steps with her tummy up. Her front teeth have also just barely emerged from the gum line in the past day or two.

Yeah I'd guess she's about ~4 days older than you were told, not that it will make much difference when she gets older :tongue2:. But they don't usually get teeth until 21 days so that's my guess.

Her teeth are now about 1/4 grown in, and the canines have begun to grow as well. She likes to bite on blanket or your cheek once in a while. She can also walk for a little longer and slightly steadier. When would be a good time to begin introducing wet food and litter box? Anyone have any tips for helping with development as she grows, and any tips for introducing her to my very high energy 3 month old kitten when they are closer in size? Thank you!

Today violette has not been eating as much during each feeding, so I have been feeding more often. For the past two weeks or so she has had normal looking hard poops. She seems to strain to poop and meows. Usually she poops a couple of 1 cm "pellets" per day. About twice a week she has a very long and large poop about 2 inches long. Yesterday she did her long poop and it had more mucus in/on it and at the end it was not very solid. Today she had another long poop (however, smaller than the first) and again it was softer, had more mucus, and this time was more green. Now when I returned to see her after 2 hours she has pooped for the first time by herself. She did (purposely?) get out of her bed to poop, but it is drops of more soft/liquid mucus consistency all over the pad. And then she returned to bed. I have her eliminate before and/or after every feeding so she didn't start soiling her bedding until this week first with pee, now poop for the first time.I am not sure as to whether she is experiencing constipation and that is causing the mucus and soft stool, or if she is gaining control of elimination, or if something may be wrong. Any advice?

Upon closer inspection of the poop in the cage, there is a little drop of blood in some of the poop, could this all be from straining and constipation?

Any signs I should look out for if she has parasites? I will be take her to a vet if she continues to have any blood or diarrhea. She will usually not take formula at full strength she likes an extra 1/3 part water and is eating about 8 tbsp per day at 15 oz.

It looks like she might have a poop that is too large to get all the way out. She no longer has any blood, but she is straining to poop and it looks as though she will have a large solid poop, but can only poop mucus liquid. She gets out of her bed and meows for me to help her and begins pooping almost liquid mucus consistency but strains each time she attempts to poop. Is there anything I can do to help her if it is in fact a very large poop?

Sorry about all the poop details! :lol3:

Start adding a few drops of olive oil to her bottles. You can also get an infant suppository (glycerin) and shave off a small piece.

Yes, a couple of drops of olive oil in each bottle will help, or as stated, a tiny piece of an infant glycerin suppository inserted will relieve constipation. Kittens begin to pee and poop on their own after 3-4 weeks of age. In fact, at 4 weeks they can be shown a small litter pan.

The blood is likely from straining.

Thank you so much! She has had a little more blood twice, only after straining for a minute or so. I added 2 drops of olive oil to her 1 1/2 tbsp of formula at 12pm today and 4 drops into 1 1/2 tbsp at 4pm, as she had no change yet. She wakes up and gets out of her bed to poop elsewhere in her crate every time. Should I be setting up a pile of shredded newspaper or something for her to go on. I'm not sure that she is able to fully go by herself yet, but should I leave an area for her to use if I'm not in the room?

Violette has still not passed the stool, she actually squirted a small amount of diarrhea but then strained very hard for about a minute before giving up again. She continues to have blood spotting from all of the straining. Is it alright that the diarrhea has become more severe? Or should I stop the olive oil? She seemed to be possibly close to getting it out, thankfully. Thank you!
