Please help me!  My cat Samantha had 4 healthy kittens a month and one week ago.  Samantha's appetite has been big...she would have dried food and would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner (1/2 can of Friskies).  I thought she was eating a lot but yesterday I came home late, around 8:30pm and she wasn't at the door greeting me, she didn't come for dinner, I finally found her under my bed, weak and growling when I tried to pick her up.  She hasn't eaten this morning and is in her travel cage.  I am so worried.  She wants nothing to do with the kittens who are barely learning to eat from the bowl.  I prepared pureed kitten food in a little water to soften it.  They are learning how to eat.  I had no goat milk or cat milk only regualar milk.  She is not responding just hiding away,  I squirted a little water  from a baby bottle but she's not eating.

Weak and growling and not eating....please take her to your vet, better to have peace of mind.  While there, ask the vet if he has KMR, it's better for the kittens.

Its high alarming, Red Alert.  If you do have any decent vet accessible, and any possibility at all to take her in, do it, asap.  Emergency.    Good you try to get her to drink something.  Have some glucose sugar in it, for example, some honey.  Gives energy and buys you time.

But its clearly emergency vet errand.  Be sure momma has it warm, ie a heating pad.  The weak ones have almost always difficult to keep their temperature.

And yeah, you must fight on with the kittens.  Baby food is OK, full fat youghurt is OK - better than regular cow milk.   As cat-tech mentioned, while you are at the vets, they should have kmr.  Useful for both kittens and momma, if the vet let her return to your place.

Please come back and report, even if nothing much happens.

Good luck!

I'll pray for her, she may have an infection from birth. Hopefully the vet can figure everything out and get her on the road to recovery! I can't imagine anything taking a mother cat from her babies, so it is serious, please seek a vet ASAP.

She needs to see a vet ASAP. She may have mastitis, which is an infection in her mammary glands. This can cause fever, and is painful. It requires an antibiotic to clear it. You can apply a warm, damp compress to her belly in the meantime for relief.

She will not nurse her kittens if she has mastitis. They need to eat in the meantime. Since they are 5 weeks old they should be able to eat pate-style wet food. They need kitten formula asap also. You can also give them Gerber turkey or chicken plain meat baby food.

Can you get your mama cat to the vet today?
