Tory was left by his Mom in our garage. Our vet estimated him to be 3 weeks old at that time. We bottle fed him, eventually converting him to Royal Canin Babycat wet food, then a little of their dry food. He moved right along. He had some vaccinations. Then developed a URI. Took an antibiotic.

Then he tired of the Babycat formula so we slowly introduced regular kitten formula wet and dry food.

Four days ago, a Saturday, he became disinterested in his food. Then all food. On Sunday he vomited twice. Second time he brought a up small piece of a plastic clothing tag. We went to ER clinic. Xrays showed no other foreign objects. Blood work was normal. They told us to keep his diet bland - tuna in water. He ate Sunday night twice. Checked in with vet on Monday and they said keep an eye on him and keep food bland. Monday he ate nothing. Not kitten food, not tuna, not people food. He drinks water, poops and pees but is starting to look wobbly.

Going to take back to vet today.

Any suggestions on what to ask vet to check for specifically??? Any ideas on what this could be?

Thanks for any and all help!

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  Hopefully your vet is able to get to figure out the issue.  At this point I think your vet really is your best hope since he will have more information about the cat to know if there are other symptoms like fever or what else might be going on with the poor thing.

I called my vet and even though they were trying to spare me more expense...they are having us take him over. They want to keep him for the day. Check him out themselves, maybe give some fluids and/or Cerenia and we can pick him up this evening. Then we are to call in the morning to let them know how he is doing and if still being weird about eating he will go back for the day at which point they would do more testing.

At least I feel as though I'm doing something for Tory now instead of just hovering over him when I'm not at work.

I'll update on his health this evening when we pick him up.

please do.  I have a cat that is on cerenia and it does help with her vomiting. I have (many of us here)  have a had a cat on fluids, and those help them feel better pretty fast too.  Hopefully one of them does the trick to get kitty back to normal!

Thank you. This forum is great. I think I will be on it a lot. We have six cats, the oldest two being three years old. So everything we encounter is a learning experience.

We picked Tory up on Tuesday evening and he had been observed, given fluids but no Cerenia and he had eated a bit of warmed food for the vet.
They did their bloodwork and did their own X-rays and found nothing. Liver enzymes and kidney values were good.
So he came home. About 8pm I put down a few pieces of dry food down to lure our 2 girls into their play area. And Tory went right with them and started to eat the dry food. I let him. He ate well. Yesterday morning he ate it again. And so on. He still isn't super active but he getting there.
I still watch him a like hawk.

I'm trying to decide if I should take Tory to a different vet for another opinion.

In the morning, he is very vocal. Which used to mean he was ready to eat then play.

Now he is still vocal but he doesn't want to eat or play. He comes out of his room and sits near the water bowl watching the other cats play and/or nap. He is uninterested in food until later in the day, then he seems to want to totally overeat.

I feel like when he wakes up in the morning he wants to do what he used to do nut he feels crummy. Then maybe the sicky feeling goes away a bit as the day goes on and then he realizes how hungry he is.

My thoughts go to when my dog, Shealy, had kidney disease. Mornings were always a slow start. Like happy to see you but not wanting to run around. Then when she would eat we would wait to see if she would keep the food down or if it would cause her acid reflux. She didn't take an acid reducer regularly since that would make her vomit regularly.

I guess for my piece of mind I am going to have Tory seen at a more advanced veterinary clinic in our area.

I go to work and cant wait to text home to see how Tory is acting, eating, etc.

Peace of mind is worth a second opinion.

I've been there with the vet diagnosis not sitting right and something feeling off. You know your cat so if it doesn't feel right it probably isn't.

I know what you mean... lol.  My kids tease me about worrying more about the cats than I do them.  But with out kitties, we are guessing.  With humans we can say okay, where does it hurt, how long has it hurt, does it feel better, does it feel worse, and we can compare it with pain we have had before.  With cats, they hide pain so well that when they show pain, its usually something serious.

Its good that Tory is acting a little better, and did eat.  Hope it continues to improve.

Thanks! I'm calling at lunch to get us an appointment. I know that I take better care of these cats then I do myself...
