Found out my cat had this today during her spay. There is next to no info on google aside from a case study from the 1940s and one a few years ago which basically just touch on how weird it was to find it.  Anyone have experience with this?

I am a human doctor, not a vet, and any advice that I give concerning cats should be checked by a vet.  However I have had experience of renal agenesis in humans as well as those who have lost a kidney. The incidence of the congenital loss of a kidney is about 1%.   Those humans with one kidney can continue to live a normal life.  Their remaining kidney is larger than normal and I understand that cats with a congenital lack of a kidney are the same as humans, their remaining kidney also becoming enlarged.

In my opinion they would be at no greater risk for developing feline renal disease than normal cats, although, of course, if they did develop feline kidney disease, their prognosis would be poorer.

Don't be distressed by the diagnosis, most cases of unilateral  renal agenesis. are found accidentally, like your cat.  Incidentally those females who have congenital unilateral renal agenesis often have a disturbance of their ovaries and associated internal genital organs, not that this would concern you as she has been spayed.

With all best wishes,

Geoffrey

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!  There were other abnormalities as you said.  She may have had some ovary tissue left on the abnormal side, as there was a bit of something the vet couldn't safely identify(her anatomy there was more iI shaped instead of Y shaped).  Everything else looked fine, according to the surgeon and radiologist.  Again, thanks, you've helped me feel quite a bit better.
