Greetings everyone! This is day two for myself and Ru. I knew I wanted a more grown cat and was not expecting such a special kitty. I had been looking at the shelters for weeks waiting for the moment when I met "the one" I cannot believe how fortunate I am to have found him. He was being given away online and as soon as I saw his picture I knew I wanted to meet him. It was love at first snuggle. I have been researching everything I can possibly do to give him the safest and most happy home ever. I am ecstatic to find this site and others that can give me tips for owning a tripod kitty.

I think we are doing well. Although I made the mistake of not putting the bag of cat treats high enough last night and he had a "midnight snack" with some overindulgence that caused him to throw the treats back up. First thing this morning I got to shampoo carpet. He hated the sound of the carpet cleaner. I had hoped he would be here longer before breaking it out but that's life. He is eating and drinking well today with no other issues. He hid for about an hour after I arrived home (under the entertainment center) then after talking to him, calling him, and then just laying on the floor across the room so he could see my face. He came out and made the rounds of snuggling. I think this is all normal and the treats are safely tucked away inside of the cabinets. Normally I would think the over eating was from lack of food but his bowl has been filled with his daily food amount and he doesn't eat it like its his last meal. He is eating his actual food a little at a time but finishing the portion in about 16 hours. I made his appointment for Microchip, neuter and vaccinations on the 20th. This way he is acclimated before we take a ride to the dreaded vet. He is still a very sweet boy. He also decided that the big teenager is a ok.

Yea, not only must you store his food away but all those dangerous toxic items too. Like medications, human foods and plants and flowers.

Many cats are afraid of loud noises especially from vacuum cleaners and tv or hi-fi and fireworks or drilling. They'll run and hide. Just calm your kitty down whenever they do that and give them the assurance that those things are not a threat to them and you are there for them.

Good to hear that he'll be neutered soon. That'll make him a happier boy ;)

One of my cats got sick from too many treats, too.
I shut them away in the cupboard now.  Mine used to be afraid of the vacuum when they were younger but now not only are they not afraid, they won't move even when they are about to be sucked up by it.

Hahaha. Ru is definitely afraid of the vacuum. He hid for over an hour when I cleaned the living room today.
