No, it's fine to feed red meats like beef and vension to a cat. Seafood, however, should be limited as that can cause problems in some cats.

I can't find the website for the life of me that said they shouldn't: I guess my question is that is it OK of thet go without it. Do they need red meat in their diet?

As long as you feed meat to a cat, then it doesn't matter what type of meat it is. You could feed only chicken and turkey based cat food for your cat's entire life if you wanted to.

Hey! Thanks so much!!
You are very knowledgeable. Do you mind if I ask you a probably dumb question so I don't have to make a new thread?

How about water? Is it important that it's filtered or is tap water perfectly fine for them?
I give them filtered, but my mom keeps giving them tap disregarding my request.

Tap water is just fine. If your tap water quality is questionable and isn't somethng you would personally drink without boiling it or filtering it first, then give your cat filtered or bottled water. You can request a copy of your local tap water quality report from the town water department.
