I got my new Kitty Marbles  thanks giving time, She is loveable :-) to me. My problem is she attacks my other cat. Carissa is 11 years old and has been the only cat here for two years. Marbles attacks her full blown.  I mean she jumps on her back bites her ear and bear hugs her.  Carissa will meow loudly as I am sure it must hurt. Carissa will not fight back.  "  I wish she would a little" I try to keep them in same room but once Marbles sees Carissa she is in attack mode. Carissa now has been hacking up clear phlegm :-(  She was fine until I got the kitten.  She acts like she has a sore throat which she probably does :-( .  She has let out some  Loud screeches and lots  of hisses.  I know  keep them apart unless I have time to actually be in the room next to my older cat to guard her  I am open for suggestions.  My next thought is to actually Harness Marbles in the house and let Carrisa roam a bit.

I would llike suggestions on harnesses as well.

This sounds more as a rough play to me, the renown wrestling. Marbles wanna play, but Carissa not.  Or at least, not this type of rough play...  There is thus no real meaniness, but your problem essentially the same....  Perhaps find a play both would enjoy, say, you use the Da bird or somethong on a string, and hpe bothw will participate....

Do  you think the  phlegm and now white foam Carissa brings up is anxiety induced from Marbles?

I am open for all suggestions.

Although I understand that physical punishment is not looked upon favourably, when my cat is a bully and I whack him when he attacks one of my other cats.  Then he slinks off - he knows his actions were not welcome.  We can talk to children but I am not sure we can talk to cats.  I don't think they would understand a Time Out either. My bully cat has also peed out of his litter box (and right in front of me too).  But imagine, out of all my cats, he is the most loveable and fun - I think he may be somewhat feral with some dirty habits.

Please, please stop hitting your cat.  All he knows is that someone he loves and trusts is causing him pain.  It probably causes him to attack your other cat more, too.  You are hurting your cats and their relationships.

Its rare that I hit my cat....please don't assume that I beat them     I understand what you are saying but also maybe the cat connects his behaviour with the whack.

Unlikely, since he hasn't stopped.  Cats don't respond to punishment and you are continuing to hit your cat.

It may of course be something stress related.  We humans may often get sore in the throat when we are shrieking and or straining our voice.

But it may also be some physical problem - perhaps a virus bursting out because of the stress...   I would suggest a visit to the vet with her.  Rally.

Wait, do I understand you, the attacking cat is a kitten, and the attacked on is a senior citizen??   If so, it confirms what I think, the young one wanna play - admittely a little rought, when the senior wants to take it piano, possibly just some quite play...

A common enough scenario.  Sometimes the best solution is to get a third cat, whom is friendly  AND likes to play, chase and wrestle...  And the old lady gets her peace.

I have tried using a laser light for them both to play. It works for a little while. Marbles is a very smart kitten. When I have Carissa in the bedroom with the door shut

Marble makes not attempt to go upstairs. Then second she knows I opened it I can not keep her downstairs.  I even try playing with her to distract her.

Tomorrow I am going to try to have them together more. Keeping the separate is not going to help either. I know I was going to have trouble bringing in a new kitten but didn't think it was going to be this long.

I have try "slaps"  with  Stop or No. That does not phase her. Maybe because it was more a tap. I hate doing that. I tried a water bottle. That was always the most effect way with all my cats  Marbles was WET from it and didn't care.  I think I could of sprayed her all day.  I have always had cats. Even in my childhood days.  Marbles is very different. I will just keep trying. When it starts warming up "April"  Carissa will want to go back outside then my problem might be solve.   Carissa always has issues in the winter.  She stressing not going out, I don't stop her.  I always open the door when she wants to but if it is not above 35  she stays in. One winter she pulled all the fur off her belly and up her hind leg.  It was all winter stress. She did that two winters in a row.

She has had done that again, I am keeping track though to see if she will start doing it now because of Marbles. She hasn't.  A kitten is al new to her, She has never been around kittens, Carissa was the kitten years ago and she never had any.

This cat that was part of a litter that was found under a balcony downtown.   I didn’t want him but his owner died and my husband said he was cute so I have him, and I do love him.  I have 7 cats and this is the only one that has absolutely no manners, pees everywhere, will run up my leg while I am preparing their food, eats his as fast as he can then gets into the others.  He will hop on my desk and get all lovely with me, and at the same time will pee on my monitor.  In one day, he peed on my monitor, climbed up my office window screen and then ran into the back yard but stepped on the latch on the gate and let our dogs out.  He pees on expensive product that we sell so that I have to put plastic bags over large boxes that are on the floor – he has even peed “in” the Kuerig machine (where the drips go).  He scratches furniture and constantly jumps up on the kitchen counter.  So you don’t want me to hit my cat…….how would you handle him?

I would like you to realize that hitting is counter productive and will make your cat MORE inclined to behave in a way you don't enjoy. It's not working for you, clearly. Why keep doing it?

Instead, try to engage him more. He sounds very high energy. Perhaps he needs more activity and more play time. Perhaps he needs vertical space and window ledges to see outside. Perhaps he would enjoy going outside on a harness and getting exercise that way.

Thanks for your tips.  He is free to go out whenever he wants for as long as he wants.  But maybe he does want more attention.   BTW right after I wrote that note to you, I turned around and his face was in my salad bowl.  Yes, he eats my food and drinks my tea whenever he can.   Sometimes his behaviors are funny and other times, they are just plain rotten.
