Hi!

This may be a bit of a silly question, but I need some advice on the right beds to buy for my 2 cats.  We have owned multiple cats all my life, but they have always been females of average size (7-10 lbs).  When I got married, I brought one of my females along, as well as a few of her "kitty donuts".  Several months later, we adopted a male kitten.  He liked these beds just fine, but as he got bigger, he started to out grow them.  He is now 2 years old and is just shy of 15 lbs (and not overweight by any means).  He still tries to sleep in these beds, but he hangs over the edges, and definitely does not fit.  We had to put my female to sleep 2 months ago (she was quite old and had chronic health problems).  We rescued a new cat pretty quickly thereafter.  This cat is also a male, a little over 1 year old, and the vet believes him to be mostly Maine Coon.  Right now, he weighs just under 10 lbs, and the vet said he is definitely underweight.  He also expects this kitty to still grow some over the next year or so.  In other words, I have 2 very large male cats now.  When I had my females, I never even really thought about bed size.  I just bought cat beds at the store that seemed comfy, and the girls loved them.  But now, having 2 large cats, I've been thinking I should replace the current beds with something more suitable in size.  And this has suddenly become a bigger issue in the last two days, as the boys have now decided they're BFFs and are now curling up together to sleep.  (It only took them 3 weeks--I NEVER would have imagined!)  Does anyone have any recommendations for good large beds, or suggestions for bed size?  (For reference, I have 2 heated round cat beds that my 2 year old loves, but he completely hangs out of those when he curls up and sleeps.  I'm pretty sure they were both labeled 16".  Also, I've never measured the length of either cat, but I have measured their tails.  They are both 14" long, and very proportional in regards to the overall size of the cats.)  I'm thinking I may have to go up to dog beds?  I know kitties like to feel snug when they sleep, so I don't want to get anything too big.  However, I'd like to get a least one bed that would accommodate them both for snuggling.  Plus, the younger cat tends to stretch out full length when he sleeps by himself, so I have to take that into consideration too.  I am planning to buy multiple beds, so they don't all have to be the same size or shape.  And of course, they already have multiple options when it comes to sleeping spots (the cat climb, the sofa, our bed, etc.), so if they don't like a bed, it's not the end of the world.  But I like them to have options, and I'm just looking for a direction or guidelines before I spend the money.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

We bought a small dog bed for our 12 pound cat. It sits on top of our dining room radiator in front of a large window, so in winter, it's a really nice warm spot for her.  It's big enough if my other cat would like to join her (which he does not lol) and it affords her plenty of room to stretch out. We picked it up for like $10 at a local drug store on sale. One of the best cat purchases we've made yet.

Really pet beds aren't necessarily for a dog or cat - they just sell them that way because well, marketing. Buy whatever you feel will work for your cat.  She won't know the difference.

Some pets will sleep wherever they want to even if they have their own beds available. Others are perfectly happy with a cardboard box lined with a towel.

I have a very big cat also. I bought her a nice sized cat bed and she never once used it. When I got my second cat he came with his own bed which is smaller than the one I bought. It has walls on all the sides. She now sleeps in it and my other cat sleeps where he wants. There are dog beds that dont have sides. Its just like a little mattress for them. That might work for your two cats when they cuddle.
