My 4 year old male cat has undergone a surgery in his throat as he was bitten by another cat and was infected badly. Some places of his throat is stiched now. For making the operation, he was given major anesthetia and after that one day has been passed. His sense has come but he can't walk normally till now as vet told that it'll take 72 hours to be normal.
But, the problem is that despite having tremendous appetite he can't eat anything. Even when we use dropper tube to feed him liquids, he can't swallow up that. In this stage, the vet told that there's only one way left that is to feed him but how???
Mentionable that, he has been given penicillin to heal other bitten places as well as inside infections (SP VET), antibiotics (Ceftron 500mg) and Painkiller (K-vet/Anadol).
Please suggest us how can we feed him in this stage. My family will be greatly thankful to you. It's an urgent post.

Is your vet suggesting a feeding tube?

Yes, and we have been using it to feed him. But in this instance, he can't swallow liquid soup or water much which might be because of pain/infection inside.

He may need a feeding tube surgically implanted in his stomach.

Do you mean the surgical procedure was for an EXTERIOR would on the skin, or was that wound several layers deep leaving a gaping wound?

Did he mention kitty might have an esophageal/tracheal irritation/infection due to the tracheal tube during anesthesia?

Does kitty have an unrelenting high fever?  If so, it might be wise for him to be hospitalized on IV fluid support where his medications can be given via IV, and minimal forced-feeding for the first day or two to gauge response and ability to recover (plus daily wound care).

He had exterior skin infection. Vet didn't mention any infection. We are trying to feed him with mouth. Trying hard so that he can swallow. He doesn't have fever rather his body is quite cold. Unfortunately, in our country we don't see the technology of tube feeding entering through his body to stomach for animals. It's very tough scenario to bear.

What do you mean his body is quite cold?  Can you look at his mouth, look at his gums, are they a healthy pink?  If they are white, bluish, deep red, grayish, then you need to get him back to the vet immediately!  Is he not being kept in a warm environment to keep him comfortable?

Is he sticking his tongue out to get water and food when you're feeding him?  Can he actually open his mouth normally to accept food and water?

If you're using a feeding tube, try using only a syringe, or is that actually what you've been using?  Don't force water or food too quickly or forcefully because you could cause aspiration in the lungs.  Use a syringe (without the needle of course), and place small drops of food or water on his tongue and let him swallow on his own.  Likewise, use canned food mixed with water to make a liquid soup, but also try just canned food alone in the event he may not be wanting watered-down food but real, palatable food.

Ask the vet if the pain medication is interfering with his appetite.  Also ask if anti-inflammatories were given at the hospital after surgery, and if he needs to prescribe them now to reduce swelling and inflammation.

If he's not feeling better by morning, you really need to get him seen again to re-evaluate the wound and ensure that swelling in the throat from the interior side is not causing him the difficulty in eating.  And again, if the colors of his gums are white, blue, gray or deep red, you can't wait, get him to emergency vet right away.
