Hey all!

So just yesterday we got our new lovely boy Spike. We got him from a charity shelter. He is three years old and liked in the shelter his whole life, and I found it so hard to hear that in his whole life he has just had one visitor!

A few months ago me and my partner got out own flat and as we have both always grown up with our parents having cats we wanted one of our own! And Spike is perfect.

He is a beautiful black cat who loved to hide but also likes his fusses. Obviously he has just come to us so is a little nervous and hasnt come out much on his own.

He hasnt really eaten with us yet except a few dreamie treats but thats certainly better than nothing. He hasnt used the litterbox either yet (the sofa is currently out of use from last night) but hoping we can train him when he becomes more comfortable with us.

Any of you guys who dont know, black cats are least likely to be adopted out of any other kind of cat. My parents had a wonderful black cat while i was growing up and we already adore Spike.

Anyone else who has adopted cats? Anyone else who has black cats?

Hi there faeriedale, welcome to TCS!

Spike has had a rough road to travel so far, thank you for giving him a home. I'd love to see some pics when he feels more comfortable.

I knew vaguely that there were superstitions around black cats but I didn't know until recently that black cats are least likely to be adopted. Even in the UK huh? Wow, that's not good.

Personally, I have always loved black cats and when we finally were settled enough to own catsI chose a blue and a black. Poppy is beautiful looking with a gorgeous laid back personality but she loves her food a little too much.

to TCS!

Our Mo(w)gli is black and also from a shelter. Around here (SW Germany), black cats and dogs do seem to spend a longer time in shelters than red tabbies (very popular) or ones with very distinctive markings. Black cats have always been my favorite, since they look like miniature black panthers. We had one, Midnight, when I was a kid, and I'd always wanted another. Our last cat was a tuxedo. After he died I told the people at the shelter I'd be quite willing to adopt a black male, and their eyes lit up. There are quite a few black cat fans, though.

So good of you to give Spike a home!  How's he doing now?

You can see my black cat Zoe in my avatar.  She's on the right in the photo.
