Hi!

I just tossed some seat cushions that had cat hair that wouldnt come off in the washing machine, my cat loves to sleep on the kitchen chairs at night.

Anyway, i am thinking of reupholstering the chairs to have something permanent on the chair. I was thinking of putting a clear plastic cover like vinyl over the fabric, but am wondering if my cat will hate the feel of it? Shes not the destructive type, but i wonder if her nails will damage it? my sister suggested i put fabric then over it a spray to repel liquid. Will this repel her hair? and the dirt from the oils of her skin?

Please help, you know its bad when people refuse to use these seats. lol

Are you talking about kitchen chairs?

We have fabric cushions on our kitchen chairs. I vacuum them pretty much every time I vacuum and that seems to do the trick for the cat hair. When they puke up a hairball, then I unzip the covers and throw them in the washer. And when they get stained and I can't get them cleaned, they get tossed.

I wouldn't think plastic covers would work because of claws puncturing the plastic.
Even if she's not purposely being destructive, claws do puncture some materials.

And, this is just me, but I'd be a little worried about some kinds of repellent, about cats breathing it in or being on the chair, then licking. That could be just paranoia on my part though.

Just my two cents.

Get some kind of microfiber fake suede type fabric. The fur will wipe right off with a damp cloth or sticky roller. You can Scotchguard it for extra protection. . .I'm pretty sure it's safe for cats once dry, but do read the label to make sure.

I agree with using microfiber.  Our couch is microfiber and I've had to clean everything from cat hair to marker and milk off of it.  I use an enviro cloth from Norwex (so just water, no cleaners) and it picked up pen, pink highlighter, oh and once...cat puke.

Our kitchen chairs are leather and peeling badly; too bad to be saved. I'd love to cover them in microfiber!

Yes, kitchen chairs. i had some seat cushions that my mom and i bought, i tried vacuuming them, and throwing them in the wash. but the hair gets so stuck on. you made a good point about the vinyl and the spray, i'll see what fabric i can find, thanks for the help!

thanks for the advice! i'll ask in my local fabric store. i like how easy that sounds to clean, which is my goal. lol and for the cats not to destroy it.

I had a similar problem. My ex and his lady friend came for dinner and her bottom was covered in cat hair. I couldn't get it off either. I bought new pads then went to Giant Tiger and purchased cheap hand towels at one dollar each to put over the pads. I simply remove the towel when using the chairs and put them back on after we eat.
