Hi everyone
My cat has been acting a little off lately, he's been sleeping more and not really acting like his usual self for 1-2 days. He had a neutering appointment scheduled for today and against my better judgement I went ahead and dropped him off to get neutered. Will he be okay getting neutered even though he's acting off and might possibly be sick?
Also, I would be extremely thankful if someone could tell me how to care for him after he gets back home, this is the first time I have a cat neutered and I'm really nervous!

Hello atticus3, the vet should do a check on him before the procedure. If they think it's ok, they'll carry on with the neutering.
Neutering is just like a day surgery. Your kitty will stay at the vet for a few hours after the surgery for observation. You don't have to feel nervous as long as the vet is competent. Neutering your kitty involves anesthesia and just two tiny slit on your kitty's testicles. The surgery site will swell a little for a few days as though nothing was done to it after the surgery. Your kitty will be feeling drowsy after that and make sure that he does not climb too high. He may not eat when he's back and don't have to worry about that. He'll eat when he's hungry.
The anesthesia will wear off in two days or so. Your kitty will proably be sleeping or like some, active as ever.
When he's home, just make sure that the surgery site is always dry and clean. If you can, dabbed the surgery site gently with a slightly damp tissue paper after he he pee or poop. Make sure the litter or litter dust do not get stuck on the surgery site. Just observe that the site is always clean and make sure that there are no pus oozing from it. The slit will close up by itself after a week or so and it takes around 6-8 weeks for his hormones to be completely flushed out of his system.
After that, he'll be sleeping more as he does not have the urge to chase 'girls' anymore. Give him lots of excercise to make him stay fit and slim.
