My older cat (the one whos tooth was pulled) had IBS and was on medi cal Hypoallergenic you have to buy it from the vet but it was the only thing that agreed with her. Was on a locally made raw food before the issues. You could try the medi cal but I can't guarantee it will work YMMV

This is just my cats but I found canned is easier on the digestive system than dry.

Which brand was that? I had her on Royal Canin two diets ago (yeah, it's been a journey), but the receptionist at my current vet's office told me Purina EN was better. Which is why I was then a little confused as to why the vet mentioned Royal Canin as an option tonight, but she said because we're now looking more at the calories.

So we're trying out the Royal Canin rabbit and pea, just to see if it'a more appetizing to her than the z/d so she can gain that weight back. I'm convinced that either would be fine if I could give her three slightly smaller meals rather than the half can in the morning and half can at night. Unfortunately I'm a teacher and am sometimes gone from 6:30 am to 5 pm, on occasion even later if I have a training. I'm curious if members here have any experience with automatic feeders and wet food. I tried it briefly but it was a no go.

Generally auto feeders and canned food is a no no since the food will spoil if left out. Also some cats don't like them. My eldest cat is terrified of the auto feeder I used to have. My friend has it now for her dog.

Wanted to stop back in as it's been a little while. I've switched Lizzie to Royal Canin Rabbit & Pea canned, and after a few days she started gobbling it all up. It used to be that there would still be about 1/3 of what I fed her at 5 am still in the bowl when I got home around 4:30, but now she's eating everything usually by 3(slow eater, always has been, I think it goes hand in hand with how petite she is). Still taking the pred, but I'm going to check in with the vet before I refill again to see if we should try to decrease the daily dose a little. For now, she seems content, and sticks to an eating schedule to the point where she woke me up from an afternoon snooze yesterday so I could feed her at her usual 6 PM time.

Hopefully this sticks. In the past things have worked for 2-4 weeks and then the symptoms have come back.

Used to have a slow eater myself. I always called her a little sheepy. Guess you have a sheepy as well lol.

Main thing is your cat is eating glad to hear it.

Quick update: Lizzie's still eating well. She's gained some of her weight back; I can still feel her ribs but there's a little padding there. We're on day 5 of reducing the daily dose of pred to .35 mL and she seems to be eating more or less normally. Keeping the fingers crossed, we'll go back to the vet in about a month!

Good to hear. The process is emotionally draining I know so I'm glad you're seeing some positive results.

Sounds good. A cat at ideal weight you should feel the ribs but not see them. Also should have a bit of a tuck between the hind legs.

Don't forget to play with your cat. This helps build muscle and helps you bond
