Great that you got him a cat tree. Looks like he's enjoying it.
He slept in it last night and its the first good nights sleep I've gotten in early December. He is normally indoor/outdoor so he runs, climbs and scratches real trees all the time outside (plus our yard is decorated with old logs and some old log turned into planters all of which he loves to climb and scratch). A cat tree never seemed needed before but I've been looking around for the last two weeks with him suddenly jumping on everything since he got off crate rest. I was going to get it last week but the warehouse was closed for the holidays. I wanted to get one with a wide support base and thick columns because he really throws his weight around. He is super happy and got mad at Rocket when she ducked into the little kitty cave on the bottom. I just hope he keeps using it once he gets outside access (daytime only) again. Even if he doesn't though the cost is worth it to make him happy for the next 3 weeks.

My boy also likes climbing high up. But he thrashed the highest post of the old cat tree as he likes to jump up from below and hang on to the top and that's how it gave way :lol3: And I got him a new cat tree. The post are held on by a single screw. Best is get those with double posts.

From the bottom to the first is a double post and then a single post for the perch/nest. But the posts are 4.5" diameter and the bottoms are 3/4" particle board that is pretty solid and stable. I also got on where the base is 21" x 28" and the second level is 18" x 13" so that it doesn't narrow too quickly and has good center of gravity. Hopefully the single screw thing works out, but I did notice that and was a little iffy on it. The bottom posts screw from the base with longer screws so they felt pretty solid but that perch had a weird double ended screw thing. I might reattach it with some gorilla glue on the threading or figure out a different method to attach the perch part.

You guys are so bad for my wallet.  I was looking for interactive toys on Amazon and lo & behold, they put a pix of a really cute tree with a bitty hammock. Guess what's being delivered by end of day tomorrow?
I doubt Mr Sparky will use anything except the highest perch but that's okay. Here is his new tree, I'll share pix once we get it set up.

DH did say that the house will look like a cat tree jungle and please restrain myself for a bit before getting anymore. Aw I'm
Seriously, he's gotten into the spoil kitty rotten thing too, we can't get near the cat section without him finding something new for Mr. Sparky to play with.

It's better to get one with a broad base. Sometimes if they are rough and jump off, the whole cat tree can topple over. I got the new one with a broader base which is 23" x 19" for both base and second level compared to the old one which is 14 1/2" x 20 1/2". When it's new, the screw holds but after some rough paw handling, it'll start to wobble. They need to use a double end screw because the second post sits directly on to of the base post above the second board. Unless the second post is fixed at a different point then there's no need of a double end screw.
The post are made of thick cardboard with strength enforced by the sisal rope. So the part that gives way on the posts are the both ends. No point applying glue as it is supported by a single screw. It'll still wobble and topple unless every perch part is double posts.

It's just a little poisonin:devilish:g ........:lol3:
Well the tree looks sturdy except the top post. My boy thrashed the top post and ended getting him another cat tree last week [emoji]128580[/emoji] [emoji]128540[/emoji]

Part of my house are all his stuffs and the whole house is his playground :lol3:

THANKS, I have been enjoying all the pictures! Just updating...Percy spends hours on his 'tree! Being on a budget, it was the right price - free! :lol3
So happy he's enjoying it!
That's a great tree and Percy can't thrash it. And he can help you change light bulbs! :lol3:

Hmmmm

The bottom to the second is good. It is just the post with the perch then. Since its the first tree I might just wait and see how it wears. If it starts getting wobbly I may be able to drill into the tube and run some wood dowels up it and attach those more securely to the items about and below them.

As long as your kitty hop on gently, it'll last. My boy jumps from the ground up and latched on to the perch just like wall climbing and haul himself up :lol3: So with his weight pulling on one side, the bottom just bend with his weight. Any single post will not be strong.
Inside of the cardboard tube is a plastic holder that the screw is screwed on to tighten to the base or other posts. Unless you secure both single posts together so that it won't wobble.

Link and gentle do not mix.

We are talking a cat who broke his leg and got a pin put in it. Had 8 weeks house arrest for it to heal and within 3 weeks of going outside had the pin fail and pop out (she said he just was too much cat for the pin to handle). 13 pounds of long, lanky and uncoordinated muscle my boy is. He had vet mandated crate rest for 2 weeks after the pin removal to allow it to re-heal and is currently 4 weeks into his second 8 week confinement for the same broken leg. Plus somehow managing to displace his cast for the broken leg within 5 days while in a crate. Not to mention his abscess from what looked like a raccoon bite and now a spider bite on his arm (while on house arrest). If there is a way to damage the post, Link will find it. He's already taken to hanging from the post with his arms while bunny kicking it with his legs.

Probably should call my Dad over to do some remodeling on the post before we have trouble after saying all that.

Oh poor cat, went through so much. Hope he recovers fully.

Ya, see what modification can be done to secure the posts. Let me know if you have a good idea about doing it. All I can think of is secure the two single posts with a cuff like rigid material. But that'll obstruct some free space and get in the way of his movements.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm blessed with 'tool man' in residence,  so if it needs some tweaking for chubby butt, he'll be able to do so. He's looking forward to it's arrival tomorrow, so he can assemble.
